I just watched The Social Dilemma on Netflix.. I am in shock! I am a father and a husband and this show hit way to close to home! I immediately deleted ALL social media and news apps from my mobile device...
My question for discussion is... How does Apple handle our data? I like what Apple does for security. I am a very happy customer and fanboy for many years, I think I got onboard around Snow Leopard. Anyhow, I understand that they encrypt data at the device level. Does that also include older devices? I regularly use a 2009 MBP. What about web browsing data?
I understand its a give and take. I don't want to sound like I wear an aluminum foil hat around or something. I just want to do the best I can to keep what is mine, mine.
Whats next? Is there a safe web browser to use that isn't as invasive at Google, what about a email program? How do we live our lives and coexist with tech without being the "targeted consumer"
If you haven't watched Social Dilemma, you should! I consider myself to be pretty smart but I never really understood how selling advertising funds sites like Facebook. Social Dilemma puts it all out there...
What are your thoughts?
A few quotes from the show to get your mind thinking...
”If you’re not paying for the product, then you’re the product.”
”There are only two industries that call their customers ‘users’: illegal drugs and software.”
