Can someone please tell me how the pre-order works.... I am trying to not create a new thread so I am posting in here and I know I have read it in here before but cannot find it.

Basically something just came up and i have to move out of my apartment and it is 2k to cancel so I'm am a bit tight on fun money. Now If I pre-order, then pay my cancelation fees, can I still use the money in my account? I know I will have the money before it ships but how does the hold work. I will be using a debit card.

Thanks,

-Dale

They won't charge your CC or DC until they ship it to you when you order online. In store, obviously, they'll just have the device reserved for you (a guarantee you'll get one), and you will get charged the day you pick it up... (the 3rd)

Thanks again. I responded in another thread but don't want ANOTHER duplicate post here so can you please respond here. Thanks again!

While they do not charge to amount to your CC until they ship the product, your CC may show it as a "pending" charge and reduce the available credit you have. I have seen this with one of my CC before.

Well, this is rally what the OP wants to know. So which one is it? I know when I order from Amazon or preorder they never charge or put a pending amount on hold or anything of the sort. They charge me when it ships. Period. If anyone who orders from Apple could answer this definitively it would be much appreciated.

Yes it would be. Thanks.

I want to order from Apple. Also can I cancel the pre-order with no penalties and if so is there a deadline?

It will be a debit card, does that make a difference?

I ordered my 13" MBP from Apple.com. I used my Debit card and the money was put "on hold" at my bank. It showed up as a "pending" charge so I was not able to withdrawal that cash from my checking account. I think it varies form bank to bank so my experience maybe different from yours. I have had this same issue with other companies, not just Apple so I was expecting it and wrote the money out anyhow.

The only item I've purchased via CC from Apple was a iPod Touch, the amount was not charged until the day they shipped it, but on my CC website (Capitol One) they reduced by "credit available" by the amount of the iPT. I don't' know if they would have actually let me use that or not as I didn't use it to find out prior to the iPT shipping.

I would guess just like bank policies differ, CC may as well. Might be worth a call to whichever bank or CC company you plan on using and explaining what your needs are.

Generally when they hold money for the pending charge on a debit card, it expires after 4 or 5 days if the charge doesn't happen. There will be a new hold and then the actual charge when it's time to ship.

The hold doesn't last for several weeks when you are waiting for the item to ship.

Ok, and I'm sure it could vary and I know you can't guarantee but from what your saying is I should be able to spend the money after a week or so? Also if it comes down to it can I cancel the pre-order with no penalty?

hey does anyone know if i hold it in the store but it turns out i cant get it will i stilled get charged? can i also cancel it?
