How does Guild Wars 2 run on 2011/2012 MBP?

I'm really excited about the release of GW2 this month and I'm about to upgrade from my 2010 15" MBP for it. I now have 2 choices:
1. 2012 rMBP base or 2012 cMBP (high end)
2. 2011 MBP high end with antiglare screen

Option 2 would be ideal for me if it could run the game well (since it is cheaper). Anyone tried to run GW2 on one of those machines?

It's going to run at very middle of the range frame rates provided that all the detail level is turned down to low-ish. How else do you expect a laptop with middle of the road GPU to run a modern game ?

GW2 is not an intensive game. It will run very nicely on your 650m.

That GPU is faster than the gaming centric 460m GTX from a year or two back that was in those ugly as heck Asus ROG G73 notebooks.
 
My brother plays Guild Wars 2 on the MBP with the Retina display and it looks amazing.

Not really true. I ran the game in boot camp on my RMBP at 1080p with all settings at medium and it ran smoothly (>30fps) at all times, including WvWvW. Very happy with the game on my machine. the 650m overclocks like a champ, and is a little more than just a middle of the road 650m in all honestly. Check around.
 
I took the plunge and bought the base rMBP. Hopefully they are hosting more stress test events before release - need to decide whether I want to exchange for cMBP :)
 
I have a 2012 cMBP (low-end) and played GW2 during the last stress test, and it ran pretty well in most areas. However, when there were alot of NPCs or people, it lagged and the fans ran high. Still, it is just a stress test and I'm sure that when the game actually launches the performance will be significantly better :cool:
 
I have been running it through wineskin on macbook pro 5,5 2.16 Ghz, 8GB RAM, and the dreaded 9400M GPU at around 10 FPS solid. My CPU is hovering around 50%.

I have been wondering if it is worth getting a windows notebook to run the game instead. I play with a bunch of PC gamers who love to find games that aren't available for Mac :(

Well you can always go with bootcamp :)
Just an update: I went with the rMBP base model and have been enjoying GW2 so far. With most settings on high @1080p, I get a solid 40-50 fps at most places. Can't be more happy about it.
 
i just installed a torrented version of windows 7 64 bit on my mbp


I have a macbook pro 13 inch without the retina display
i recently torrented a copy of windows 7 with 100gb partitioned and was wondering if i will be able to run gw2 with medium-high settings.

here are my specs

2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5
Turbo Boost up to 3.1GHz
4GB 1600MHz memory
500GB 5400-rpm hard drive1
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Built-in battery (7 hours)2

will it run?

Yes, just not at the highest settings. Guild wars graphics engine is not very taxing as magority of PC laptop owners that play Guild Wars have intel GPUs because thats the most prevalent gpu on laptops. The Intel HD 4000 is a great GPU. It's fastest integrated gpu and even give some of AMD and NVIDIA entry level discrete gpus a run for it's money. But compared to the 650m that is in the 15", the 650m is 7 to 8 times faster. The 650m is a very fast GPU, 680m can be found in gamer PC laptops just don't expect these laptops to be sleak and sexy looking. they are thick and ugly looking, they also have a horrendus battery life. Basically the 13" model represents the averge every day use with power to run most games decently, the 15 model is for serious users with aspirations for more than just games.
