How does IOS 5 iChat work? Sometimes when texting my friend who has iOS 5, it appears as a text message (green), not an iChat message (blue). Do we both need to be on Wifi? Do we both need to be on 3G? Is this a glitch?

I apologize in advance if this is on the wrong forum, this is my first post on this website.

It's actually just called iMessage. You both need to have a data connection (Wifi, 3G, Edge) and on iOS 5 devices.

Your problem may just be a glitch - as I've seen it 1st hand when my buddy sent me a text (green), but his next message (5 seconds later) was an iMessage (blue).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

I've noticed if someone has particularly crappy reception, it will end up being sent as a text.
