I'm in the UK and I'm looking to buy an iPhone. With the price drop to $399 I'm now interested in a new one. The only problem is not being able to get it in the UK as Apple won't ship outside the US.

When one purchases an iPhone, does one sign up to a contract there and then, or does that come when the phone is activated? I could activate the iPhone using the DVDJon method, and then wait until an unlock hack is around for me to use my O2 SIM.

Even eBay is more expensive than Apple. Are there any kind, reputable MR folk in the US that would be happy to buy an iPhone and ship it to me? Obviously I'd send you the money in advance.

I was considering the same thing.
But, now, I'm a little more enlightened as it seems at the Apple Paris Expo, they'll probably come out then. It's on the 25th-27th.

Yes you can get it shipped from the US if a seller on eBay is willing to and you can crack the activation and unlock it once the software comes out, but mabee the iPhone you get off eBay is faulty or something... and do you want to pay more to get a phone with no warranty that could be damaged? I say wait.

The whole point is that I don't want it from eBay. I'd rather pay someone in the US to buy one for me and ship it over.

If they announce the European iPhone at the Apple Expo then it still won't be out for a while after, and would still cost considerably more than a US one, especially if I'm buying it without a contract. Think about it, the US one costs $399 with a contract, so if you add in the fact that we're constantly screwed for prices on Apple products it's going to cost £300+

I doubt it, Apple has recently moved away from having things ready to ship at announcement time. They'll need to give all the networks across the whole EU time to get their launch going.

looking at getting a iphone from the usa as well are these usa mail addresses any good
