Does anyone know how it's going to work if you're on the IUP, have made your 12 payments and want to order the new iPhone when orders go live? Do you just do it like regular and have it shipped to the store? Then trade your current phone when you pick it up? How do they bill you? I don't get it....

I asked a similar question (and the only "response" I received was that Apple doesn't play nice with Verizon). But if you go to either the Apple iPhone Upgrade page or go to the Apple Store App/Account/My Devices, there should be a place to check if your iPhone through the IPUP is eligible for an upgrade. If it is, there is a place to tap "upgrade now". I would assume (HOPE) that when the preorders take place that will give you an option to upgrade to one of the new phones. If not, well then we might have to wait until they are available on the on sale date.

Thanks for the info. Yea - I don't have a ton of faith in how this process is going to work for IUP customers...

I was told by an apple representative that "if" new phones are released, based off how last years process worked, we will all get an email explaining what our options are for upgrading and how to do them.

i still find it funny how she kept having to refer to phones as an "if" kind of statement, since technically nothing is announced yet.

I was trying to phrase everything I asked her around how the process worked last year. So that way she technically wasn't in a situation of telling me how it works this year lol.

But I would keep referencing how the "rumors" say this info, and she would always reply back with well as of right now there is no new information I'm aware of, but if new phone's are actually announced...

Wonder if people will upgrade their 7's if they have to wait until November for the 8. They will have made 2 extra payments towards the 7.

So what's your strategy going to be on launch day? Login and try to run the upgrade a few minutes before so you can cllick "GO" ASAP?

I am not currently part of IUP but am considering it.

I am due for an upgrade with my iPhone 6s (Verizon). Do I need to go to the store or do anything before the ordering day to join the upgrade program?

How does Apple not play nice with Verizon?

You can actually go in and begin a purchase of a new iPhone and click on the iPhone Upgrade program option and see if your due for an upgrade. I upgraded at launch last year so I am due for the next upgrade, I am assuming this is how it will work this year.

was it a longer pre-ordering process, or was it not too bad?
just wondering because of the credit check, or even if they do a check again

Correct, but last year you had to go into a store to get the new phone and trade in the old one. This year it looks like they are doing at-home trade ins, where they mail you the phone and trade in kit, and you send the old phone back once you get the new one.

When I got my upgrade last year (different process apparently), I reserved a phone for in store, then did the credit check there. When they did it, I never got a new hit on any 3 of my credit reports. It looks as though they used the info they already had available and my payment history to approve me for the next one. YMMV, I am sure this all depends on the borrower. Overall, the process was not long.

So what's the actual difference from last year except that we probably don't have to go to the store because of the mail in trade in? This thread started with a strange question about how the IUP works and I'm confused as to why since there shouldn't be a question about the basics. :)

You go to the IUP page in the app and say you want to upgrade your phone. As was said, you can test that today and it's the same except the only thing there is the iPhone 7 options.

Friday you will have (we assume) the 8/8 plus/X options.

We hope we will just order what we want and it will be shipped to our home address, a lot simpler than last year!
