How does power adapter use affect battery?

So what is the best way to use the power adapter? I have already calibrated the battery - I charged my 13'' i5 to 100% and then drained her to 2% before recharging.

My question is this. Should I leave it plugged in if I am not going anywhere? Is this bad for the battery?

Is it better to leave it on sleep or to shut it down whilst plugged in?

Am I being too neurotic?

I don't have a laptop but I'm curious about this as well. Is a fully-charged battery "bypassed" while the laptop is plugged in?

So dumb question time. From the FAQ "After your computer goes to sleep, turn it off or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.".

Once my Air goes to sleep, how do I turn it off without waking it up? Or do I just leave it for five hours or longer?

If you want to turn it off, you can wake the computer again, but I would leave it sleeping, as it does consume energy compared to being shut down.

When it reaches a full charge, the light on your MagSafe adapter will turn green. This indicates that it has stopped charging your battery and you are now running on A/C power with a fully charged battery. It will not overcharge your battery. It's also perfectly safe to let your Mac notebook sleep with A/C plugged in.

AppleCare support recommends that if you leave your Mac plugged in most of the time, unplug it every 2 or 3 days and run on battery down to somewhere around 50%, then plug it back in. That keeps the electrons moving.


Last post, just to answer my question and for any others that come accross the thread. If anybody has not read the FAQ posted above, and is an obvious noob like me, I highly recommend it.
