How does the Apple new translator compare to other translator app?

Just wonder if any clues showing Apple create its own translator capabilities or buy it from other developers.

In terms of performance and accuracy how does it compare to other translator apps,e.g. Microsoft Translator?

Not sure yet of the accuracy - haven't had a chance to use it real time yet - but the number of languages it supports is significantly lower than Microsoft or Google's offering.

Could be good on the languages it does support, or could be like v.1 of Maps for them. Apple isn't exactly known for on-the-fly language support - so limiting it to just a few languages may be their way of not launching an international incident.

I tried different translator apps and found Microsoft Translator is at best in regard with integration with safari (I need web translate), while Google Translate is more accurate.

To avoid international incident again Apple should avoid translating Chinese as mainlanders are too sensitive to a lot of things. However, the first launch of Translator support Mandarin Chinese (simplified), not a good news for the users who look for Chinese translation.

Well, for now at least, Apple's app lacks the ability to use the camera for OCR input.

So if you want to quickly figure out what that menu item is, what the parking sign says, or some other text passages, it will have to be Google's or Microsoft's apps.

Using English to Japanese, I cannot get phonetic versions for kanji either in kana or romaji. I can see the kanji in the dictionary, but having a phonetic version is essential for me if I want to speak what I’ve translated. So I’m sticking with Google.
