How does the Apple Store Exchange Systems

ANytime now the Apple store is going to be calling to exchange my original MBP to a C2D MBP. No I'm not trying to get smug that I'm getting a free upgrade or anything. Its just that the box for my MBP is up in the attic; and I've got a cast on my leg and instructions from my doc not to put any weight on it.
I'm just wondering when they do a trade in do they want a direct swap out of everything or can I just gather everything up into a bag and take it in without the packaging? Sorry if it sounds like a stupid question. I just don't know how anal the Apple store is going to be on the trade in. I guess I could call them but the wireless landline phone has died and I really would rather not crawl up the stairs to use the corded phone. Call me lazy but those stairs are daunting as a first timer on crutches.

Oh, I misread your post...

They probably want the original box, accessories, etc.

i didn't know they will take exchange like car dealerships...

i do know that to return a product, it'll cost 10% restocking fee and within 30 days. i know this cuz i wanted to get a Mac Pro for now and upgrade to Clovertown Quad-Core later... but after finding out about this i didn't wanna lose $300 more $$ and few days (i ordered online).

also, i don't think personally configured systems (online) can be returned.

but if there is an exchange program, i'd sure like to find out how.

i do know that to return a product, it'll cost 10% restocking fee and within 30 days. i know this cuz i wanted to get a Mac Pro for now and upgrade to Clovertown Quad-Core later... but after finding out about this i didn't wanna lose $300 more $$ and few days (i ordered online).

You obviously missed my previous post. Apple is replacing the system under warrantee because of the # of times they have had to repair the system.

PS- It kinda makes me wish Apple had a leasing program where you could swap in your system once a year to keep your systtem up to date.

Hhmm given me a good idea for a business! Buy old apple laptops from people like us who want the new ones, re-furbish them, and then sell them off again! might not be worth while but could be worth looking into. Shame I dont have to skill to refurbish laptops and shame im to rat-assed to look into it haha .

oops, i guess i did miss it. so how many times did you had to repair? didn't know there was a # limit.. but nice that they upgraded for you tho.

More than likely, they're going to want everything, box, manuals and all, because most everything in the newer systems is slightly different.

And to the above poster who said you had 30 days to return the system, Apple gives 14 days to return a non BTO system with the 10% restocking fee. 14 days to return a non-opened non-BTO with no restocking fee.

I believe this will be the 5th time. I think. I lost count. As someone recently pointed out in my previous post they are replacing the system because of a screw. Seriously though. What happened is I believe I had a faulty magnetic sleep system. First time I brought it in they replaced the logic board. Second time they couldn't find a problem. I showed up and demonstrated that if it gets bumped this way the system turns on (In a skin tight neoprene bad this is what is known as BAD.) They sent it to Apple's depot. It came back. Couldn't find a problem. I showed them again what the issue was. Apparently they documented it further this time. They sent it back to depot again this time they replaced the magnetic sensor. Got it back Woo hoo its fixed right? Got home and started to reinstall the Seagate 160GB drive that has my "real" install of OS X and all my data on it. Took off the memory cover and proceeded to remove the hex screw. Couldn't. Apparently the good folks at Apple's depot, or at least one of them, is using an electric screw driver and torqued the crap out of one of the screws to the point that it stripped the threading. Consequently I couldn't remove the screw because it just sits there in the hole and spins. Took it back to the Apple store again, asked for a manager, he took it in back, 20 minutes later he comes back and says yah it would have to be sent in again. Instead he told me we will order you a new system. That was Monday. I've been getting more then a little pissy on the boards but if you were laptopless for about a total of about 3 weeks (Cumulative) I'm betting most of the people on this board would be... irritated.
