How Does the Sync Folder "File System" Work

For those of you who have theirs, how does the whole folder system work? It's something none of the reviews seem to elaborate on. From what I understand, there is supposed to be a folder you can toss things into when you connect it to your machine. Has anyone done this? I'd really like to know if apps such as PDF readers can access this shared folder.

Wouldn't have been a deal-breaker or anything, as emailing documents is nice and easy and opens straight to Pages etc... but that really is great that they included that in iTunes! I'm surprised, in a good way.

I find this rather disappointing as well. This does not seem to fit the description of how file transfer had been explained previously. It doesn't make me want to cancel my preorder, but it is a let down.

well, it keeps things organized. You don't have a cluttered folder with loads of files, you just have the files you need to use.
What I find rather disappointing is the fact that they again dropped removable hard drive ability. I mean it would be nice to save some docs or pictures by a friend on a 64 GB iPad!

While this system, the current one, seems ok, and with a few glitches ironed out even good, I 'll have to echo the sentiment that at least as an option folders where you can set the apps to draw from and that can sync to the mac (i.e. set certain folders in finder outside of itunes to sync, and preferably do so wirelessly via the cloud or at least wifi) would be ideal.

I think the current system apple uses is not going to be the last word, and we are going to see however advances in the near future. Well, that's partly a prediction, and partly hope, wishful thinking.
