untxxitled.jpg

It shows up when pressing F8 and when you put the mouse at bottow of screen you can see a line of all the widgets-just like it in OS X!!!- >_>
What do you think? everyone is jealous of MACs!

The "Yahoo Widgets Software" was previously known as Konfabulator. It was available for OSX more than a year before it was available for Windows, and long before Dashboard was added to OSX.

Yup they are both the same thing...so can we say now that Dashboard isnt something special for MAC OS X?!

Actually I think the way Konfabulator has changed shows they are copying OS X Dashboard, for example before Tiger came out, it never used to line up the widgets along the bottom (unless I'm mistaken).

Plus it used to crash all the time and I often couldn't get certain widgets to work at all...

Yes, but Konfabulator itself predates Dashboard (although arguably there are many similar "widget" apps in use before Konfabulator as well).

iirc one of the Konfabulator devs was fuming over the existence of Dashboard because it looked and felt so much like a rip:

WOW,,,so Apple steals others ideas?! anyway is the Dashboard on mac better than the ''yahoo! widgets'' on pc? is so then why??

This wouldn't be the first "stolen" idea. Most of them are widely implemented ones Apple just chose to develop on their own instead of buying out an existing implementation. There's been more than one disgruntled developer out there - out of all of them there's only one that I'm unhappy about, and it's VirtueDesktops stopping development because of Spaces. Spaces can go suck my *&$% and I dislike it from what I've used so far, Virtue was a damn awesome app and I will really miss it.

Why is this so surprising? Read up on the history, they've both been doing this from the start, Apple started off the "borrowing" spree with Xerox PARC and the GUI (in exchange for pre-IPO stock), and Xerox ended up trying to sue Apple for it when Apple was suing Microsoft for copying too much after the statute of limitations passed.

Um, that's debatable.

Like I said, I vastly prefer Virtue to Spaces - hell, I'd prefer so many other virtual desktop solutions to Spaces it's not funny. And I wouldn't touch Dashboard with a 10 foot pole, same goes to all the similar apps.

I refuse to touch Dashboard or Spotlight, and I dislike Spaces after forcing myself to try it but don't have much of a choice cause I can't stick with an app that's no longer in development. I also won't touch Time Machine with a 10 foot pole either.

Pretty much the only reason why I'm even on Tiger, other than my computers coming with it, is cause of the bugfixes and general improvements over Panther. Leopard is iffy but it might as well be a forced upgrade at this point because half the applications I want to use will come in shinier 10.5 versions. (edit: and objc2.0!!!! :D)

who said i'm avoiding them because they're stolen?

dashboard -> useless to me, uses up too much resources
spotlight -> replaced with quicksilver

spaces -> virtue, for the moment because it is more stable and usable
time machine -> svn+backups on my raid without the cruft

Now please tell me where I'm refusing to use an application based on whether or not it's "stolen"?

umm well i can see that dashboad would be real useful and easy to reach and its ''cool''...
QS is better than spot light probably..so i agree at avoiding spotlight..
time machine/spaces never tried them neither my mac owners friends...

That's not my point. Dashboard gives me NOTHING I can't do some other less-resource-hoggy way. I don't care how shiny it looks, it's useless. You like it, good for you. I disable it and use the extra key for something more useful.

As for the rest, there are more than capable replacements for them, so.

edit: Need proof of the uselessness? I can't see a SINGLE thing in your screenshot that would be of use that doesn't belong somewhere else. It's all trivial, unnecessary, and could be better done elsewhere, e.g. in quicksilver, in the menubar, or an rss reader.
