I've had my macbook since September. Before I use it, I always wash my hands with soap, and I never eat near it. I have never noticed any track pad staining. I let my brother use the other night for a few hours. He didn't wash his hands, and I came down once and he was eating a pancake over it (and possible other stuff). After he finished I inspected the computer and noticed that the track pad is stained yellow. Is it possible to have stained it from only a few hours of use? Or is it more likely that it was always stained and I never looked close enough. It's a really noticeable yellow, I see it even when I'm staring at the screen, and I really didn't think it was there before, but might I be wrong?

Thanks.

I'm not sure how fast the MacBook stains but my first (white) MB, even with invisible skin on the palm rests/trackpad/clicker, had slight yellow stains even though I cleaned that area every other day!

For my second MB (black) I still applied the invisible skin to the area but also purchased a keyboard/palm rest silicone skin. I guess it doesn't matter much on a black MB cause it wouldn't be noticeable...

Very easily, the outer casing of mine is nowhere near the shiny white it once was, it's ALL staining a pale yellow and the underneath has wonderful brown/yellow streaks. Oh, and it's not covered under the warranty to boot. :(

My Macbook got terribly stained. Yellow marks on the trackpad and wrist rests. One call to Apple and it was done. Dropped off at Cancom and fixed in three days under warranty. Fabulous service.

I think the early macbooks had a problem with discoloration on the trackpad area. Applecare should step in and replace it for you. Maybe now they have fixed the problem.

depends on when your macbook was made, I remembered all macbooks made before week 27 have big chance of being affected by discoloration. Other than that, even if the food or whatever leave stains on the computer, u can simply clean it.

Last word, I was just as excited as you are, and vow not to eat near the computer, wash hands all the time, etc. :D , but im not really sticking to it anymore.

to be exactly, after apple repaired my mb for RSS, during which, they replaced the top shell of my MB, and I can see visible scracthes on the new shell they give me. what the heck, they make me understand that, "who cares, computer isn't an art, its for you to use, no matter how careful you are, it would eventually goto trash can anyway. lol"

Hmm, my MacBook was made in around August and I recieved it in September, so I presume it belongs to one of the first batches ever produced. I have not yet experienced any 'yellow' staining, but the trackpad now appears noticibly shiney around the middle of it. I also noticed on the keys, that these also appear 'shiney' in comparison to the rest of the matt finish.

It is more conspicious on well used keys such as the center of the spacebar, and in the middle of the keys where I presume my fingers make most contact. I guess this is all wear and tear and not much can be done about it. Whilst it was nice having a brand new MacBook without a scratch existing on it, I try not to be one of those people who shrink wrap their lives. Ultimately, it is a tool like a hammer or a chistle, thus as long as it performs it's function I'm relatively content.

Also, the MacBooks (like the iPods) are scratch magnets. Mine has barely left my desk but appears as though it has been cleaned with a brillo pad. The bottom of the MacBook has indeed amassed an impressive array of scratches from just being occasionally repositioned on my varnished pine desk! I suppose this is minute items of dust and other debry that are un-detectable by the naked eye causing friction between the two surfaces.

Jesus christ.

How lovely~~;)
It's so boring to wash your hands before use MB everytime. You can just try the Palmrest protection which also has the track pad protection to protect your MB and cover the stains. It's easy~

you can search Palmrest Protetion on ebay.
