how easy is it to blow mbp speakers?

just wondering, i was watching a movie at full volume on VLC controls and two notches below max volume (using the volume keys) to watch an action movie from the desk to the bed in a hotel room. i was worried i'd blow the speakers, that's why i kept it two notches below max volume, but how easy is it to blow them out? and how about for mb speakers?
 
I've always run my MacBook and iBook speakers at max volume and never had a problem. Certainly a company as large as Apple has adjusted the volume controls so that its nearly or impossible for the user to blow the speakers. If you've somehow changed your system so that it is louder than intended, you may experience problems. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.
 
he is overdriving them via vlc's gain, basically overriding it but I dont think theyll blow befor they start bothering you I realy cant see why you would want them that loud
 
Macbook speakers should be impossible to blow. I would think that the MB's internal amplifier and speakers would be matched so that the volume never got high enough to blow the cones. You should be safe really. I wouldn't worry too much. :)

i didnt kow i was "overriding it with vlc's gain, i just maxed out vlc volume (because when you fire up the program it is really quiet) and put os x volume two notches below max. but i didnt max it out because i didnt want to blow the speakers, and i didnt. good to know its pretty hard to blow it...

(just because im paranoid about my mbp :D my precious)
 
so in the future should i be cautious about putting VLC at 100% and volume two notches below max on os x? or will i be alright?

general consensus seems like its hard to blow out the speakers... like i said, i am babying my mbp like no other :D
 
Th concern is that the VLC slider goes from 0-400% not 100%.

I just tried it on my powerbook. I would not worry about blowing the speakers unless the sound is starting to distort. I don't think it is possible.
 
Cool thanks for letting me know. I don't think I will mess with VLC sound anymore (just to be on the safe side).
