Pics please. I saw a friend's dell ultraportable and the screen went almost flat. I sometimes use my laptop in weird positions and the screen on the MBP doesn't really go far back. If anyone could take a side view on the MBA screen as far as it gores, that would begreat.
Thanks!

I always hated that the MBP's screen don't recline back far enough. The PowerBook's screen tilted further back. It may be due to how thin the MBP is.

MBA does not go quite as far back as the MBP.

Here's a thread I started after seeing an MBA in the apple store that could go back much further than the standard. I suspect that the MBA hinge design is capable of allowing much further range of motion but that Apple has put a stopper on it so that it doesn't outshine the other apple notebooks with old hinge design.

BTW, when I put my latest MBA next to my MBP, the opened to exactly the same angle...

It opens to the same angle in a body vs screen sense. Some of you may not be accounting for the fact that the MBA slopes.

In either case, the MBP/MBA/etc angle isn't enough in many situations when I'm genuinely portable and trying to work. Backs of cars are a case in point, but the Air by dint of its low weight is a little easier to prop up/back to make the maximum open angle a little more usable.

However it is definitely less usable in such situations than the Dell D430 or any number of other ultraportables which are actually designed for truly portable use, and not just looking pretty on an executive/PR BS type/designer's desk or on a coffee bar table.

My week 5 opens well beyond the customary 130 degrees. Can't explain why. It is what it is.

thanks for showing that from the side since people didn't seem to understand how it was possible. The one that did that in the store worked perfectly without any problem with balance or stability of the display - I assume yours does too?

that's how they all should be and I'm sure will be once Apple revises the hinges on the other models. Lucky you! Wanna sell it?? ;)

I think there must be a way to do this by adjust the hinge - I can't imagine that it can be that difficult....?

I have not encountered any stability problems or any problems for that matter.

I've looked through sites that have disassembled the MBA but haven't seen any hinge detail.
