So, I'm trying to decide... In the morning I'm getting off work and going to buy a MacBook Air. Here's my decision. Do I drive 250+ miles to the closest Apple store or 60 miles to the closest BestBuy? Both have them in-stock.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan of the "BigBox" stores, but will I "gain" anything buy driving two more hours?

I know I could save the gas by calling or ordering online... but I want it NOW!!! :)

What would you do? What are the advantages/dis-advantages?

This will be my 1st Mac if that matters...

Peace!

Why not order it from amazon.com instead? Free shipping, no tax, no driving and excellent return policy? Not exciting, but you'll save lots of driving time, money and hassle in case you need to return/replace.....

Hmmmm ... $1800 CPU + $80 in gas only to go to an apple shop vs $1800 CPU + $10 in gas + You get a $35 in Rewards Zone giftcards and if something is wrong with it you only have to drive 60 miles and spend $10 in gas again to swap it (and most Best Buy Apple Shops are Apple run anyway).

Apple store gives you a cool MBA bag.

How are you 60 miles away from Bestbuy? Wow. Anyways like others have suggested the Amazon deal is a good deal no tax or anything. Someone also said if you go to bestbuy you get reward zone points/certificates. I do go to bestbuy a lot and these are quite convienent. I say bestbuy.

Apple store all the way!

...but drive safely! The experience is worth it, plus I think its just better buying from apple incase you ever needed to return it or anything (knock on wood )

Congrats!

P.S. I would never drive that far...just order online and be patient...or go to best buy.'

I'm so indecisive.

again: amazon.com with free second day delivery. Even Apple.com can't ship that fast! And: no tax, 30-day return policy and a $50 rebate. It really can't get much better than that.

I really can't recommend amazon enough. When the MBP first came out, I must have returned five of them for various issues (some small stuff too!) and always got a full refund with no questions plus they paid for return shipping too. Given the problems that can occur with laptops, having 30-days is worth a lot. If everything is still good after 30 days of use, chances are you won't have a lot of trouble after that.

I had a heck of a time doing an actual return with amazon.com w/ a laptop (not apple) which was defective it took me months to get all the shipping back. Very unpleasant experience to put it mildly.

I think that's very unusual. Usually they allow you to print a return ups or usps label as part of the return process if you've chosen defect as reason for the return . Sometimes that doesn't work and you have to pay shipping first and then email them how much it was. I've done this a lot with all kinds if items, and every time they've refunded the shipping within a day or max two with no questions and no requirement of receipt or anything. Did you buy from a market place seller perhaps?

I really have been incredibly satisfied with them on so many occasions so it surprises me that you would have those issues.

+1. I've been using Amazon for about 4 or 5 years now for all my major (and most of my not-so-major) electronics purchases. No tax and free shipping. Excellent. If you want it now, then select over night shipping. Still cheaper than paying the tax locally.

Sorry, but the government takes way too much of my money each year. Until they fix the tax loophole, I'll stick with Amazon.

I had an 800 dollar camera lens that had a problem. I had a good purchase history with Amazon. They overnighted me a replacement because I had a big gig coming up. They paid my return shipping and they didn't charge my credit card a 2nd time during the process like just about every other company would do.

I LOVE Amazon.
