Sorry for the naive questions, but I have never used Apple Pay to transfer money. I have a need to send someone cash that they could use today. Is there a way to do that or does it take time for settlement like a check?

If I have a debit card in my wallet and they have a debit card in their wallet can I simply send them a message and upon their acceptance (or in a very short time thereafter) the money would be available in their account to write a check on like a wire transfer? And assuming so, what fees are involved? Thanks in advance.

The person receiving the payment (via the messages app) will hold the money on their Apple Cash card and they are able to use it for another Apple Pay transaction immediately. If they want to transfer their Apple Cash balance to their bank account, they need to have their debit card entered in their Wallet app. At that point, they can either select to transfer it immediately for a 1% transaction fee, or use a 1-3 day transfer for free. The immediate transfer is typically "instant", but they say it may take up to 2 hours in some cases. I typically use the 1-3 day transfer and it usually posts by the next day.

Also, the default setting is to accept Apple Pay payments automatically. They shouldn't need to "accept" the payment unless they have manually configured it that way.

Thanks very much for the reply. It turned out that the transaction didn't have to be completed today after all, so no need to pay fees. I appreciate the information.
