For me, the Smart Cover leather and silicone have been a bust. This models seems to flop right off of the back of the iPad no problem when holding it compared to previous iterations.

My question is how secure does the magnet of the 10.5 iPad Pro Smart Keyboard magnetize to the back if I’m holding it in tablet mode. Will it flop off as well?

I didn’t realize there was a magnet on the 12.9 version. It doesn’t hold whatsoever.

Yes, it will... at least on the 12.9 Pro. One thing for 10.5 + ASK owners might try in answering your question is to detach the ASK, flip it around so that the microfibre side is facing outward then fold it back. That causes the microfibre side to face the back of the iPad and the outer face of the ASK to face outward.

I do this all the time with my 12.9 Pro. It feels better to hold, avoids hyperflexing the hinge and seems to give the magnets a bit of grab... not enough to prevent it from flopping. But if the magnets on the 10.5 ASK are proportionally larger, they might be able to hold.
