How good is the microphone on the air for Skype or FaceTime ?

well i wouldn't no because i do not own a mac, but judging by the quality of macbooks i would say probably pretty good.
Usable and of decent quality. I have used a set apple headphones with a mic and a logitech headset with microphone. I prefer the inbuilt microphone and speakers to headsets or external microphone. When using the inbuilt microphone and speakers at high volumes there is noticeable echo. At 60-70% volume its convenient and audio is of good quality. I make 3-4 Skype calls a week and rely entirely on my MacBook Air. I can't remember the last time I used an external microphone in my Macbook Air and previously Macbook Pro.
Does an external microphone improve your call quality? If I had to I would try the headphones that come with an iPhone as they are light and portable.
Thanks. Sounds like its good. I should mention that even when my wife complains I am using headphones with the built in mic on my thinkpad.
Could it be that she hasn't turned the volume all up though?

Really? The one on my MacBook is useless. My friends say I sound like I am underwater. I have to resort to using my iPhone headset.
Big contrast to my iMac microphone--I had the opposite problem, it was way too sensitive!

Being sexist makes you sound stupid. I know plenty of women who are very technologically capable and plenty of men who have no idea what they are doing (or worse, assume that they do know what they are doing).
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with her not being able to hear him? I'm just saying she should stay in the kitchen and not drive..
Obviously there are lots of people who lacks the expertise most forum users got when it comes to handling their computer, I was only making a joke (a good one actually). I don't really know of women who are capable, I mean sure, I know of several who can reinstall their OS, but I know a bunch of guys way above that level, not that it matters.
But I feel like I have the right to make fun of women's computer skills because they were one of the things I had to give up on in order to become this big a geek, so if just one of them ever got close to me, I mean, what was the big idea from the beginning then? - They can't and they won't ever be good with computers.
Well it's passable, but I've had to revert to my Logitech webcam a number of times when I couldn't be heard very well and the difference in sound quality is vast.
The camera quality on the Air is pretty pants too.
So it's ok and it works, but it's far from top of the tree compared to others these days. I'd invest in a decent external webcam if you use it a lot.

Wow, you're a new type of sexist asshole. So you're pretty much saying the following: 1.) She's a woman so she can't be technologically savvy. 2.) She's a woman so she should always be in the kitchen.
That's extremely sexist and is a very asshole-ish comment to make. Just because you don't "know" women that are technologically savvy doesn't mean there aren't any? Hell, there's probably MILLIONS of women who are more technologically savvy than you.
I cannot stand people who treat others like trash just because of their gender, skin color, religion, etc. Ever heard of the saying "Don't judge a book by its cover," well it's people like you who need to listen to that saying.

Okay, I better clarify. - I was sort of trolling, after the previous response to a harmless joke I decided to take it a step further, I guess I'll end it here.
Also to clarify, I didn't mean any of it.. I know at least 2 girls who know more about computers than most of my friends, but woah, I think you gave me way more heat on this one than what was called for, christ.
Well then, I'm sorry. I was not aware that you were joking. I've met people on this forum before that have been sexist and actually meant it, which is why I didn't know if you were joking or not.

There was a comparison on youtube comparing the camera quality and mic quality between the Air and the 2011 Pro models. The air had significantly worse microphone quality, probably due to the fact that the microphone is on the left hand side by the USB port, while the Pro has the mic facing the user near the keyboard.
