How hard is it to tighten the stand on the 27"?

I've got a 27" i7 here that is finally flawless, with one exception. The stand seems to be a little loose. I study alot at my desk and whenever I use my eraser, it shakes my desk just enough to cause my mac screen to slide down to the bottom position. I know that this isn't normal, and that its not my desk because I returned four of the imacs before the refresh for various problems, and this never happened on any of them.

I really don't want to return this thing because its in very good shape, but another member posted today that he had the same problem with a loose stand, took it into the apple store, and they replaced it rather than tighten it up. That makes me think that tightening this thing might not be as simple as I'd hoped. Anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

The iMac is VESA compatible - you can remove the stand and replace it with your own stand. Given that fact I would suspect it's possible to just tighten the original stand somehow, but since I haven't tinkered with the stand my self I'm not sure.

If it's like the old 24" iMac stands, there's no way to "tighten" it without using a third party VESA mount.

Trip to an Apple store. They'll probably be able to fix it there and then for you if you make a genius bar appt.

Two of them had HD failures, one had a power source failure, and the other arrived with a cracked screen.

I called apple customer service today to set up an appointment to have the stand tightened at the apple store here in town and they told me I had to return it instead. So, apparently this isn't the easy fix I was hoping it to be, because apple didn't even want to mess with it. So I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that the next one will be as good as this one (but with a better stand of course)

If I had returned my iMac 4 times already, I'd just live with a loose stand rather than go for a 5th one. In fact, if I had to return the thing 4 times, I'd give up on Apple all together and buy something else.

Believe me, if it was something that could be tightened now or in the future I would have lived with it, but apple said it cant be tightened. And honestly, having my screen fall down to the lowest setting every hour isn't really acceptable in any computer, let alone a $2500 one. And as far as giving up on apple, I love their products, and their customer service is great, so I'll just keep trying until I get a machine that doesn't have a HD failure, or power source failure or fall down to the lowest setting on the stand within the first two weeks. To me, returning a few apple computers in order to get one that works is better than having some ******, so called perfect PC.
