I am going to be waiting on jailbreak anyways, but is it OK from a performance and stability standpoint?

normally mature previous version to x.0 is a hot mess.

I know it's beta and all, but we're getting close. El cap is polished enough a few PB's in that I have no qualms using it over Yosemite on my rMB.

Bad on both. Worse on mini 2. Going in and out of app switcher is a good 20FPS on my mini 2, similar on the plus. This only occurs if you have 4-5 or more apps in the switcher with reduce motion and increase contrast disabled. Going in and out has occasional jerks as well, same on regular 6. Control Center is iffy. Quick reply is extremely slow on all my devices. Everything else is just meh. About iOS 8 performance or a bit worse.

Dang thanks.

Maybe I'll hold off for a while even if jailbreak comes out soon

Read many reports how bad it performs on a 6 Plus.

Yeah, all I can say is that - at least for me - the beta 5 is working (almost) flawlessly.
I got the promised hour of more battery life and almost no lag.

You must try for yourself.

It runs like a dead dog on my mini 2. Now I switched back to 8.4.1 which is like a 3 legged dog.

so at least its only missing one leg vs all three?

:p

My mini runs fine on 8.4, fine enough. 7.1.2 was still the best version.

was not happy 7.1.2->8.1/ 8.1.1

will hold off on iOS 9 on the mini2 then, indefinitely

To be honest my experience with iOS 8 PB was much better. Experiencing a lot of crashes with ios 9 so far. There hasn't been an update in a while so I can only guess apple is working hard to iron out all the bugs before GM.

Because iOS8 beta ran so well on my main device, I installed iOS 9 on my main device too, but next year I'll probably just wait for the public version.

That said most of the apps either worked with 9 right away or were updated quickly to work with it. The only exception, which I find pretty annoying, is the GoPro app. The wifi remote function doesn't work with iOS9. That sucks because I use the camera a lot.

For those people that say iOS 9 is unusable. I'm concerned about your usage pattern.
A lot of crashes??? How? I can hardly remember but I would say less than a crash per week.

Claiming the 6 Plus to have no lag is ridiculous. It just means you are not as sensitive to it. I can perceive visual lag and audio stutter almost everyday on iOS 8.4.1

I'm usually on your side, thinking Apple should come out with the best software.
But if you can't handle the lag in 8.4.1, why would you expect a 9 in beta to be better?

Personally I find 8.4 okay, if you're too sensitive and cannot accept the performance of every iOS release, perhaps it's time to find a new phone.

Because Apple is quoting performance gains in iOS 9. I'm reserving final judgement till the GM. I used beta 5 on my 6 Plus for a bit and it seemed decent.

Lots of lag in 8.4.1, especially when it comes to exiting an app to the home screen.

I find 8.4 acceptable, that's not to say that the phone isn't underpowered. For instance, I was browsing on safari (just some news sites) while having Apple music running in the background. In doing so, I experienced audio stutters frequently as I scrolled through webpages. Another bug persisted since iOS 8.0: often times, when I scroll up to toggle control centre from the home screen, it often lags and opens an app from the dock instead. I did similar tasks on my old iPhone 5 for comparison (also on iOS 8.4), there was 0 stutter whatsoever. Fast forward to iOS 9, which is touted as a performance focused release, I see even worse frame rate drops when I scroll up for control centre.
This is the worst performing iPhone I've owned to date (I've owned every single iPhone) and I'm attributing this to apple's moronic decision to put in only 1Gb of RAM. And you are right, I will be getting rid of this phone for the 6S in a few weeks.

Oh yeah, the Safari tab view is horrible...so stuttery. I'm still not sure if I'm gonna get the 6s or 6s Plus. I'm hoping performance is better with the A9 and 2GB of RAM because I love the screen size and battery of the 6 Plus. The performance on the 6 is just so much better.

I think I'll still preorder the 6S plus but I'll only keep it if the performance is much improved.

Runs fine on my 6+. Some small glitches but nothing major. Facebook crashes but it crashed on 8.4 and is not yet optimized for 9. Most games will improve as optimized versions are released. Battery life is meh but the betas run a lot of diagnostics. This should improve greatly

I'm agree that the 6+ is overall a bad phone for performance. Safari reload webpages everytime, audio lag everytime also if you do other things while listening to music. Sadly, I purchased 2 bad iPhone one after another. The first was the iPhone 5. Great performance but the battery was terrible, and now the 6+. Great battery and screen size, but performance is not acceptable. Its not normal that my phone is only one year old and it already feels like 3 or 4 years old performance wise. Browsing the net is not smooth, listening to music while browsing the web is broken, and finaly, apps reload is guaranteed if you open more than 2 apps. And i'm on ios 8.4.1. So yes, I also hope that ios 9 perform better than ios 8 on my 6+.

Just saying that even though iOS 9 hasn't leaked any internal builds as happened with the Windows 10 beta, it doesn't mean that they haven't done anything since the latest iOS 9 beta available. In fact, I would be surprised if they didn't make any improvements if not new features they could have held until Wednesday's event.

That's exactly what I think. OSX has been getting steady updates but it's awfully quiet on the iOS end. I can only guess they're holding something back which the iOS coding would reveal. Maybe some new features of iPad Pro?

Facebook crashes on a daily basis. Music volume is turned down during an incoming message but failes to turn back up. The phone is stuck in landscape mode on occasion, unresponsive touch screen, corrupt photo files, music stops playing when open the photo/video browser in iMessage or Whatsapp. The list goes on.

You can expect these things to happen in a beta, but it feels like iOS8 was much more stable as a beta release.

Do you keep a lot of apps running the background? It has NEVER happened to me and I consider myself a power user.

Hiccups yes, but you see it coming a mile away, eg clicking on html5 element in mobile safari, it pauses your music and safari freezes. But I find that acceptable, I would blame it on the web content, most of the time it's ads anyway.

You mentioned Apple Music, chances are you're walking around and pass some dead spots, causing buffering problems.

Personally I think 5s responds as fast as the user. Pre iPhone 5 era, I find myself hovering the icons before it's loaded, that's not the case anymore. You'd be surprised how laggy and unstable an Android phone is, even with 2gb ram, quad-core cpu etc.

Every time I use an Android phone, I'm proud of my iPhone's performance.

I have friends who use Android and every time I use his phone, I'm proud of my iPhone's performance.
1. I was on wifi, while sitting in bed
2. Definitely, iPhones beat android in performance, there was never a doubt about that. But why compare with the inferior? Relative to previous iPhones, the 6 plus feels very underpowered. Whether or not that's "acceptable", is debatable. I paid over $1100 in Canada for this phone outright and for a flagship phone, I'd expect it to at least do web browsing without severe lag.

Looking forward to the GM, hopefully we see some performance enhancements!

Define underpowered.. like not showing significant performance for the price you paid for...?
Cuz I feel the phone has what it takes to run everything it needs to.

and the 6 supports so many LTE bands, it's not even funny. Unimportant to most but important to me.

for a flagship phone, I'd expect it to at least do web browsing without severe lag.

I don't know man... I haven't been on a website on my phone where I go 'darn you mobile safari!!!'.
Not to offend (truly) but could you share some sites so I could experience it for myself?

I've only been impressed, like scrolling on 9gag.com for 45 mins and it still hasn't refreshed/crashed.

I was on wifi

It's hard to believe but sometimes my 4G loads things faster than my wifi :D
