Okay I tried searching the forums but I can not find an answer. I was wondering what my macbook temp should be. Is there a normal range? Thank you!

Thank you for the quick response. I am all set then :)
For curiosity's sake, how hot is your macbook? If it's getting anywhere near 80 C, that is still very hot for a notebook.

The main thing to remember is that your computer will shut itself down before it reaches a temperature that could cause any damage to internal components.

Oh it's not getting anywhere close. I'm not sure what it was before the update today but it was at 36C when I made the thread. It just feels really hot to me but it's not to bad I guess. I'm new to all this stuff. I didn't know it would shut down before anything was damaged so that is good to know. Thanks again!

Katharine, if the high running temperature of your laptop casing worries you, you might want to consider investing your money into a good notebook cooler. There are several varieties out there but I think the best one is called the iLap. If you own a 15.4" MacBook Pro like I do (and these performance laptops can get quite hot), then you might want to consider iLap 15" W which is the widescreen version made specifically for MacBook Pro series. The price is a bit steep but it's the best one I've seen so far.

im slightly worried about my MB....it usually stays around 65-70*C when i have a few programs running, but when im doing something heavy or im ripping a CD, it gets to about 83*. is it normal to get that hot when im doing things like that?

83 sound dangerous. My iBook rarely hits 65, and thats with it on my bed with a thick comforter. That's when doing normal things, maybe ripping or watching some DVDs. Right now its on my bed with the covers and I'm surfing the net - fluctuating between 47.2 and 47.3 degrees C.

Under a maximum cpu load, my macbook will spike to 89°C. When the fans have reached their max-speed it drops to 82°C. And after killing the cpu-eating processes, it drops down to it's normal temperature of 60° within 10 secs.

I have a question. Are these the CPU core temperatures reported by thermocouple or are they the skin temperatures on the bottom of the notebooks?

The CPU temperature of my MacBook 2.0 usually lies around 65°C when I'm using Firefox, iTunes w/AirTunes, Mail, Cyberduck, Textwrangler, and similar light to medium (AirTunes) work. If I fire up Photoshop and some large images, start ripping CDs it goes up in the mid to high 70s and if I run Handbrake and start ripping a DVD or play several matches in Championship Manager 4 the temperature rises to about 85°C at which point the fans kicks in.

If you're worried, check out the Intel Mac Temperature Database. You'll see that they often go over 80°C... :)

just make sure that you keep it level at all times I had a warped case on an ibook it would rock slightly luckily apple replaced the 600.00 case free! But I always make sure they are level now

Too hot is 100 degrees Celsius. The max temp for the core duo. But not to worry the CPU, and therefore the computer, will shut down automatically when it reaches the 100 mark.

That's about the same as mine, and I think, normal.
