How Hot Is Too Hot?

I was just wondering what the normal operating temperature of macbooks should be, and what I can do to make it run cooler if mine is way too hot.

Actually, that's what mine runs at about. Cpu A about 140. I havea a C2D 2.0 Ghz with 2Gb Ram and 80Gb 5400RPM HD.

I think that's about normal temperatures. I had a bunch of threads originally about macbook temperatures if you do a search or click on my id and see other posts by me, and it seems that the C2D Macbook does run for most people somewhere between 55-65C, which your 140 being 60C

Good, good. It just seems a little too hot to touch sometimes... like I can touch it but it's not quite comfortable, you know?

So long as it isn't dangerous for the computer, I'm cool with it though.

That's the strange thing - it seems like outside hot and the processor hot somehow do not correlate... and I do trust the processor temperature showing because it correlates with the internal fans - and I know the Apple engineers are really smart... The processor is not even where it's hot, and that the only thing I'm worried about being damaged by heat. It seems the place where things are hot is the far right corner near the power plug... what's there - airport card, power... that maybe it... just thoughts...

well, the underside will feel hot, with contribution from cpu heat and other factors of course, but the amount of heat that you feel with your hand on the underside of the unit dosen't always correlate with the cpu heat. The cpu sits under the f6 and f7 keys.

Bottom line is the unit is going to feel warm to hot on the underside, and there's not too much that can be done about it. Right now i am at 50c/122 f for cpu a result. My MBP has been on for about 4 hrs, and i just finished making a dvd in idvd, encoding and burning it. The underside feels warm, not hot, and not uncomfortable to touch, but i'm not sure i'd want it sitting on my lap for too long.
