How Hot Is Your MacBook ??

Hi guys,

What is your average MacBook running temp?

After 15 mns of running, just browsing with safari, mine is running between 65 > 70.

This is my second MacBook as the first was randomly shutting down. The previous one was running between 45 > 50 and that went down to 40 > 45 after the SMC Update.

I find 65 > 70 (and often hotter) unacceptable as it makes it impossible to use the book on your lap, and that sort of defeats the object of a laptop doesn’t it??

Also, how loud is your fan, its very load on this machine but I never heard it on the previous one.

i just get on with it now, my 12" powerbook used to get toasty under the hood too

as long as it works and does not toast my wibbly bit's thats all i care about, for any other problems there's Apple Care

It usually operates at about 56-57-58°C in normal use (Firefox, Mail, TextWrangler, Transmission, iTunes with AirTunes).

I've tried CoreDuoTemp on my Macbook for couple of days now. It shows idle of 10C, and under normal use, shows about 40-48C. I find that very hard to believe. I'm not sure its safe to rely on temps given by that app.

I guess something might have gone wrong in the installation. Try reinstalling... don't forget to purge all pref files and support files (the installer log and/or spotlight is good for finding all those files ).

my blackbook is usually around 45C, unless I've been running Photoshop or something..

much better than my white macbook before it - i wonder why??

Thats why you bought a NOTEBOOK Apple computer and not a LAPTOP, heh, you got what you bought, a portable computer but not a laptop

Mine usualy runs in the upper 40's, lower 50's. Sometimes it jumps up to high 70's low 80's and the fans kick up. This usually happens when I'm working in one app and safari is idle in the background? Closing safari always makes the temp drop. Doesn't happen often, but is puzzling.

I don't have a mb, but my mbp w/ the new mobo's temp falls into most mb owners' temp of 55*C.

Previously had an iBook and Powerbook that both ran hot, especially the iBook.

My MB doesn't seem to run as hot as either of my old ones, about low 50s.

Mine used to idle at about 68° C before the firmware update, now it's about 59° C - and it gets annoyingly noisy very easily.

Well, my MacBook is running at 58~59C. It been on all day (unlike the PC ), and running Safari, Pages, iTunes, Internet Explorer 6 (yes, you heard me). Photoshop CS2 and Dreamweaver were on a few hours ago.

You are quite right right drake, and also lucky to have a cool MacBook.

I cannot believe that 3 users out of 35 are reporting an average temperature of 85 > 90C !!!!

Let's have some more votes please, over 400 views an only 35 votes.

To be honest, I avoid having any notebook on my laptop for any duration of time. If I keep it there for an hour my legs feel all 'tingly' and weird afterwards. I suppose the radiation emitted from laptops can't be highly dangerous, otherwise I'd like to assume that they wouldn't sell them or people would have sued by now. That stated, I still don't trust them.

when i first started my mbp it was going strong at about 29 celcius but when i left it on the carpet for lunch and various other activities, the temp jumped up to 75 celcius, wtf? could it be from heavy downloading?

Steve mine seems to run around 60 odd something while its been on for awhile it starts out at about 30. Hot little bugger
