how hot should the back of a 27 imac be? mine gets almost too hot to touch
i noticed the fan came on today which i hadn't noticed before.
it's quite audible actually

just wondering

it would be helpful if you had a temperature monitoring program and told us the various values

but the back of the iMac does indeed get hot to the touch under normal use

Use iStat Pro to monitor the temperatures and fan speeds your iMac is producing. If you want more feedback, report the values here and don't forget to add the temperature scale (Celsius, Kelvin and that other one without the 451 following it).

Suggest downloading / installing iStat Nano (widget) and tell us its many different temp readings. re:

IMO.... Temps within 60C range is hot. 70C is "super hot" and 80C is way "too hot". Fans run full RPM at 83+ temps. If wondering, my iMac 21.5" comfortable runs within 25 - 50 C range. Mostly within 35 - 48 C range - for my general home user tasks.

.

thanks, i'll download the widget

by chance, does ram have anything to do with heat generation?
i just installed 4 gigs of ram today bringing my imac up to 8

i mention this because i've never noticed the fan noise before
until today, which is what prompted me to touch the back

my iStat temperature readings seem to be around 60-ish
