I just though I would share this with people that have been on the waiting list forever, as it may be a way to get your MacBook Pro much faster.
When the MacBook Pro came out, I wanted one. Only thing is, just like everyone else, I wasn't crazy about the 3-4 week (or even longer) leadtime before they shipped. So I didn't pre order. Instead, I went to my local apple store (Willow Bender in Plano Texas) every couple of weeks to see if they had gotten them in. When apple finally started shipping, the store let me know that they had started to get them in, but they had a long waiting list of about 75 people. They asked if I wanted to put my name on the list, and I said no. I figured it would take forever to wait for 75 people to get the MacBooks.
Well, last Tuesday I called the Apple store regarding the new Minis, and they said they would be getting them in on Wed. I also asked about the status of the MacBook Pro list, and they said they had been getting them in, but that the list was still about 75, as new people had been added to the list while older orders had been filled. They asked again if I wanted to put my name on the list, and I said, sure, go ahead, as they didn't even require a deposit.
Well guess what, 3 days after putting my name on the list, they called and said they had my MacBook Pro in and wanted to know if I still wanted it. I told them "hell yeah", and that I would be right there. Curiously, I asked them about the other 75 people on the list in front of me, and wondered how they could have gotten through the list that quickly. Well, here is the catch. When the apple store calls, they don't leave a message if you aren't there, they just move on to the next person in the list. If you do answer the phone, you have to agree to pick up the MacBook that same day, or again, they just move to the next person. In my case, I just got lucky, they called 60 people on the list ahead of me and noone answered their phone.
So, if you want a MacBook Pro fast, put your name on your local Apple Store's list, and BE SURE YOU ANSWER THE PHONE WHEN THEY CALL. It worked for me.
Honestly, I felt bad for the other people on the list ahead of me, but the apple store made the rules - all I did was answer the phone when they called.
Hopefully this helps someone get a MacBook Pro that has been waiting forever.
