HOW in heck did they manage the battery performance!

I am so amazed at the battery performance of my MBP M1, I am seeing ~3 days of use!

I use apps under Rosetta 2, Native Office, Safari (including YouTube vid playback), Edge etc. and I just can't kill the battery in one day.

I am totally blown away, iv never experienced a device that exceeds the advertised battery expectations, this thing is wild!

Also, I can't get people to believe me how long I get from this battery, sharing stats from the battery preferences is still not enough to prove this to my windows/intel loving friends.

Anybody else found this? - And revel in the smugness. ??

Great to hear. I think the Silicon- and upcoming architectures is by far the smartest move Apple have done since the decision to enter the mobile phone market back in 2005.

I rarely use the battery on my M1 MBA. The few times I have, I have been very pleased. Being able to get 2 days was very amazing to me.

There are a lot of reasons, the m1 being the only 5nm laptop chip on the market is a lot of it.

Guess it's just the advantage of taking a phone CPU and upscaling. At any rate. There are some premium, light and thin laptops. With AMD and Intel CPU which get amazing battery life now too. It's just most people want a $300 to $500 laptop. Which isn't going to cut it.

Although those other laptops generally do it by other means. Dimmer display, larger battery or lower resolution display.

The longest Dell is an 15" 1080p screen with sub par performance]...
Cant even imagine an 16" MBP with M1 with that current 99.9Wh battery inside...

Mine sure lasts a long time, but I gotta say I'm a bit annoyed with the battery stats implementation in Big Sur. Not sure how it was done before since this is my first Mac, but the "Usage history" in battery system preferences is next to useless. It's even more rudimentary than on iOS. There's no way to see the exact screen on time. What a joke.

I'm sure there must be some pro app that you can purchase with better battery statistics, but the fact it's not built-in is frankly puzzling.

I charge my M1 MBP once a week, maybe two if I'm using it more than usual. The battery life is crazy, because I don't have to even think about taking the AC adapter with me now.

I find the battery life amazing. I use my Air for 3+ hours a day and only charge it once every 3 to 4 days. Fast, no fan, and excellent battery life make for a great combination.

Battery life on my M1 pro is a massive improvement over the intel models, smashing safari and YouTube, I can go without a charge for 5-11 days. ?

If you use Intel as a baseline then nearly everything non-Intel will have super long battery life.

It's 5nm, not 5 watts. Measurements of up to 26.5 watts have been detected as Apple hasn't published the official specs.

I'm loving the battery. I've had the MacBook Pro for..about three weeks now? I decided to see how long it would last on the battery with my daily workflows this week and so far I'm four days in and at 50%. Some web browsing, no videos, some Xcode work, a lot of Messenger (which uses Rosetta, wtf, FB? You have an iOS App I could use...), Messages, Discord, and some file transfers along the network...oh! And some light screen sharing via TeamViewer.

I'm at 52%. Apparently I'm far from a power user, lol.

The 5nm die is a small part but the EXTREMELY efficient microarchitecture is a far bigger piece. As to using a "phone processor", M1 like the A Series is an SoC not a CPU. And it has been desktop class since A7.

I would think the iPad Pro started Apple seriously thinking about transitioning the Mac lines to Apple Silicon. The first iPad Pro started with the A9X using 16FFnm+ process (source: Wikipedia) and it already achieve very good battery life in a form factor that basically does not allow a lot of thermal headroom with limited battery capacity.

IMHO, it's the entire approach that Apple is tackling the power consumption issue that is key here, e.g. their TBDR for GPU, video encode/decode acceleration IPs, NPUs, etc., and also bringing the memory and SSD closure to the SoCs, thereby requiring less power to drive those, with higher performance, that allows such feat of power efficiency.

Hopefully Apple has more tricks up their sleeves for future Apple Silicons.
