Upstate NY

okay... so let me ask my questions to the group ... I love the iPhone but am intersted in feedback about the AT&T Service folks are getting. Yes, I've heard about the bills but what about reception and use overseas? Any feedback from folks?
:)

Depends on where upstate you are. Albany is fine but going north into the Adirondacks gets dicey. Lake Placid and Saranac are OK but not the road between. The immediate area of Plattsburgh is OK. Att coverage into the mountains is non existant. Along Lake Champlain opposite Burlington, Vt works down to Westport NY. Watch out when you get too close to Canada. I last visited upstate NY last summer but live down on the Rio Grande. If I get too close to the river my phone may switch over to a Mexican tower. It it just makes an email check, it costs 39 cents. If it downloads a lot of data it can be pricey. My data on NY was of last summer and previous but I doubt that a lot of towers have been added.

ATT gives you 30 days to try out their service. Just sign up and try it out. This way you can see how it is in your house, work etc. Just remember if you buy the iphone that has a 14 day return policy.

If I am not satisfied and cancel within the thirty days, will I be charged anything?

Yes you will be charged for your usage. (Verizon gives you a free trial) I am not sure if you will charge you the activation fee. Double check b4 you sign anything.

Awful in LA

I'm in LA (west side, near the ocean in Venice.)

The service is awful. Lots of dropped calls, excruciatingly slow data, and a very common "cannot connect to EDGE" message.

Dear God, here's hoping they fix it. Love my iPhone, hate the ATT network.

let me put it this way, I have been an Cingular the new AT&T customer for over 4 years switched from nextel. Only switched cause the plans and rates were very great. I was honestly hoping that Apple did the deal with any other mobile carrier other than AT&T so I would have to switch.

Its really that bad almost near unacceptable.

The cell service in my area is good. But god help me when I have to call ATT customer service. I get transfered without warning, they are rude (VERY hard to find a good rep), terrible hours, etc.

I used to have t-mobile, I could call at any point in the day, and they were most of the time very friendly, and if they didn't know something they would find someone who did. Just the little stuff they would do to make my cellular experience better.
