hi, i have ordered a MBP 2.4 standard on the 31/08/2007,, then it has shipped on the 3/09/2007, i have not get the item yet but i have checked the online recipt and the serial number is W8727xxxxxxx, this means the build week is 27!!!!!!!whih is in july!!!!, now is sep!!!!!!

i called apple and they say it is not an old stock, the serial number has nothing to do with the build date!!!!!! it is brand new and online purchase date from their system is 03/09.

so now wat do you guys recommand me to do? if there is nothing wrong withe the screen, shall i still returen it and wait for another 2 weeks to get a newly build one?

thx

If it's a standard model it was more then likely sitting around in a warehouse for some time. Yes, it's a Week 27. Check it out first before you send it back.

thx for reply, so will it come with small power adaptor and ilife 08?

Why does it matter if it was built in July?

God, you sound so pathetic moaning about getting one that was built in July rather than August. Sorry to sound blunt, but it's true.

If it works fine, who cares eh?

Why the heck are you whining about something when you don't even have it yet? This has to be one of the most ridiculous post I have ever read. You wait till you receive your MacBook Pro and then if and that is a big IF there is an obvious problem you would begin the process to have it resolved. You now have tipped your hand to Apple, they probably made some notes on your order that you are calling & worrying about your build week. Apple will now have you in their sights, you better have a very real problem if you plan on calling Apple with an issue.

Do yourself a favor, don't read theses forums.

God, take it easy. He made a valid question, no need to be so harsh.

I have never understood this concern about the size of the adapter

You must not travel.

The larger adapter is a pain in the ass to travel with. It's heavier, takes up more space in your laptop bag, and is harder to plug in to the vast array of wonky hotel power sockets. That's not even mentioning overseas travel where the power supply sometimes has to dangle precariously off a rube goldberg chain of plug converters.

One thing I hate about my MBP is how much larger the power supply is compared to my old PowerBook. I'm quite eager to replace it with one of the new, smaller power supplies.

A valid question is to return something that works fine but isn't less than a week old? If it doesn't come with iLife '08, then you can ask for a copy for free.

If you get a perfect machine and send it back because it is 6 weeks old rather than a week, then you are playing your cards wrong, and will most likely end up with a dodgy MBP (i.e. yellow tint or something).

It is a waste of Apple's time too.

If it comes with the big charger, get Apple to replace it with the smaller one. Just tell them that you bought a new laptop and you expect it to come with the new charger. If they're funny about it, threaten to return the whole lot. Surely they'd rather replace an adapter than accept a return for the whole machine.

I travel a lot, so this was important to me. Bought it at the Ginza store - they were surprisingly rude and unhelpful about this. No discussion - 15% restocking fee to take it back, no discount/swap etc... Asked to speak to the manager, he gave me about 15 seconds of his time and basically hung up. This a few days after buying a 330,000 yen macbook pro.
Not to discourage you - I am sure other countries have better service than Japan... I didn't care that much since my work paid for the MBP, and will pay for a couple of smaller adapters for my travel - but it is really unsettling when treated so poorly. My first Mac experience - made me think my Dell experiences were actually pretty good.

FYI, I placed an order on August 21st, for the 2.2 MBP, Glossy, 160GB and It shipped today. The serial is W8735xxxxxx , so I guess this is week 35..
When I get it I will let you know if it looks OK (screen)

I guess this serial to week thing doesnt work in the UK, because my code starts W83xxxx

Or is there a different way

EDIT: Read the wrong code... how embarrassing!

I believe you guys are talking about the ORDER NUMBER. As in the reference number you use to check your order status....Are you sure it tells you your build week?

Mine is W3055XXXX.

I wasn't sure when I first read the beginning of this thread why an older computer would be an issue, but I think the OPs concerns are valid, if it comes with a large power adaptor and the older iLife that would kinda suck because other people buying the same product spending the same money are getting the smaller adapter (which is a LOT nicer to have/carry around, if you don't think it matters, you clearly don't carry it around) and new iLife. Getting the new iLife might be an easy thing but the adaptor is another problem, don't know if they'd be willing to swap it for free - it might depend on who you get on the phone.

yeah, well, i bought mine from an apple store and it was ONE WEEK OLD, HOW DARE THEY SELL ME AN ANCIENT PRODUCT :D:D
