How is Line2 allowed, but not Google Voice?

As a Google Voice user, I was annoyed by the "rejection" of the Google Voice App for the iphone, but the fact that this new app Line2 is allowed and the Google Voice App is not is patently ridiculous.

I can't think of a single reason this app would be allowed and the Google Voice App would not be. And this app, unlike Google Voice, allows you to not use AT&T minutes at all! I figured that maybe I was overly upset before, but allowing this app is clearly a slap in the face of Google.

I know that it is Apple's store and they can do what they want, but all the reasons for rejecting the Google Voice app are not valid and they look like hypocrites. If I am Google, I'd be pretty pissed.

I can think of a reason - competition. Toktumi is a small company with a service that costs $15/mo and therefore has a limited market, Apple could care less about them. Goggle Voice is free and therefore have potentially a huge market that Apple does not care to accommodate. Or at least accommodate easily.
 
transparently due to competition. And despite today's litigious atmosphere, perfectly legal, it seems.
 
Just jailbreak. I use my Google Voice acct on my iPhone every day. Works great!!

I used to have my phone jailbroken and use GV Mobile, but I reverted back to factory settings and now use the Google Web App. My jailbroken phone caused every Apple computer on my network to randomly receive a self-assigned IP address from my router. On some computers, this was happening daily. I fought with this issue for 10 months before I finally figured out it was my phone. For that reason alone, I will never go back to a jailbroken phone.

funny I've ben following jailbreaking and all the complaints about it and this is the first time I have heard of this one.:rolleyes:

Does the eye roll imply that you don't believe me or that I don't know what I am talking about? I can assure you that this is accurate and I have posted about my troubleshooting experience in a few threads on this forum. In one thread I went into details. And someone else posted that they had seen similar behavior.

I guess since you have been following jailbreaking and all of the complaints, if you haven't heard of it, it must not have happened? :rolleyes:
 
It's likely the fact it costs money for the service. Google Voice is free. But ultimately I think it was the text messaging end of things that really made Apple say no to Google Voice, it still used AT&T minutes to make calls. But you could completely get around AT&T text messaging with Google Voice, for free.

Line2 doesn't do texts though, making it just fine.

Plus the whole VoIP thing now being allowed on the network thanks to AT&T.
 
And another thing - the app is useless for incoming calls unless you have it open all the time. I tried it for a week and did not really see any benefits vs my existing PBX/voicemail service ($10/mo and faxes are free) and Skype. Toktumi's voice quality may be a little better than Skype's, but not $12 more/month.

LOL - that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life. Jailbreaking does not do that. It cannot do that, it's not possible based on the software. Get a new router that isn't a complete piece of junk.

Clearly you have no idea what you're doing.

That's not what Pogue claimed. Is he wrong?

I tested that specifically - and it did not work on my 3GS. Maybe I did not have something set up right? Maybe you need to turn on notifications for it? Again, I did not have it very long - only tested it a few days.
