How is MBP's screen's colors?

It uses a 6-bit panel, so is it just like other 6bit panel and sucks in color? Are the bandings in gradients?
I've heard of it having bad in viewing angles but it doesn't look very bad here http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3747

Have apple ever used better display in previous generations?

I think people can ignore the reflections in normal conditions, and probably position themselves so that they aren't a big deal.

I am undecided. Glossy has richer color, but I am kind of anal when it comes to glare and reflections. Fortunately I have 4 months to decide before I buy my MBP in January

Errr, there are no reflections on my glossy screen right now at all. There is a window directly behind me and a light on right over my head. If I push the screen back all the way, I can just barely see one little spot of light on the screen. The only way you get reflections is if you purposely try to aim it right at a light. That is exactly the same as my matte notebook.

Ok, back on topic.

The the mbp has alright viewing angles. There is a big shift to a yellow tint as you move to the side. If you are way over to the side, the entire screen will look very yellow. This has been the case for every new MBP I have seen. Not sure about older models though. But, normal movements of the head do not cause any discoloration. Vertical viewing angles are ok. As you tilt the screen back, the bottom gets lighter and the top darker.

Yes, there is some banding in gradients. The MBP's 6-bit panel looks like any other 6-bit panel. The MBP is a great overall computer, but anyone expecting a pro-quality display, despite the "pro" in the computer's name, is in for a surprise.

Anecdotally I would say viewing angles have improved since the last generation of MBPs (which had horrible viewing angles), to the point that they're not great, not terrible---about average for this size of screen.

Many will argue that the old Powerbook displays were of much better quality than the current MBP displays. I never owned a Powerbook, so I wouldn't know for sure.

Having owned several MBPs and a few MacBooks, I would say the MBP screen is usually superior in terms of color, simply because MacBook screens don't seem nearly as bright to my eyes. The default color profile that comes with the MBP is not even close to accurate, though; calibration is a must.

Overall I would say that anyone planning to purchase either of these computers primarily on the basis of the display is likely to be disappointed. This is more true of the MBP than the MB, probably because the price premium and the name imply top-shelf quality---which, for the display at least, is definitely not the case.
