iPad Pro How is the Apple Smart cover with the 12.9" model?

So I want something that allows me to prop up the iPad Pro 12.9" I plan to buy next month. I've been looking at the Apple Smart Cover for that purpose because generally I would just need it for setting it standing up at an angle and watching movies, but I would also like to use the Apple Pencil so a slightly raised angle on table would be useful. I know that the Smart Cover can do this, but how stable is the "slightly raised" position for drawing?
