Ive the satechi hub since it was shaping back in December and it does not get hot. It’s also aluminum. I use Ethernet with it and the Ethernet adapter DOES get warm but lukewarm... not even an issue. I use an Arturia audiofuse interface with my akai MPC live and condenser mic with powered speakers (not often but i have used them— i use Auria pro for those playing along at home ) and the interface will get HOT (this is normal for it as it all aluminum) but not the hub.
These hubs will use battery power because they have chips inside to process the data/power coming in so its understood, but the hyperdrive folks weren’t upfront about the fact the 18W will NOT charge the tablet AND power the options reliably. The tablet will actually DRAIN whilst the stock charger is on it—for this one needs to invest in a higher current charger.
Still waiting for the hyper drive to come in. I was slated for the February shipment.
