i was seriously considering upgrading from the X until seeing that the home screen doesn’t rotate to landscape. While this isn’t a total deal breaker, how is this even possible. How does the 8+ have this feature and not the Max? Is this a Face ID sensor issue or what?

I’ve searched the forum here and haven’t seen anything discussing this.

I just discovered that, by accident last night. I had a 6 Plus and then a 7 Plus before the Xs Max. I NEVER EVER used "home screen landscape". Never found a reason to do so after first seeing it do it.

Now, landscape modes in apps......Yes, all the time!!!!!

It was pretty handy when you were using an app in landscape then closed it. There was no need to turn the phone back to portrait to do the next task.

Exactly.

I used either Apple Maps or Google Maps in Landscape. I was able to switch quickly to home screen and opened contacts, calendar etc. and switch back.

Just because some of you don’t use this feature doesn’t mean it’s useless or “meh.”

That’s like me saying split view on others phones is not big deal because I don’t use it.

For my usage, and in my opinion, the phone took a step backwards by eliminating this feature. Like another user stated, I have a kickstand on my phone for landscape mode and it’s annoying to pick it back up to find the next app in portrait mode. Is this a huge deal? Not really, but some people used this feature more than others. Which would make it an important feature for them.

Personally, I don't understand why they just don't make the apps rotate in their spot. This way if you're say, watching a movie in landscape, but wanted to close out and jump over to messages and remain in landscape you could do so without feeling awkward locating the sideways app icon.

Not really a huge deal, especially given not every app has landscape support (something I DO wish Apple would do with all of their own apps)

How? Apple program it to do so.

Some apps do, like contacts switch to a split screen view
