How likely do you think it is that we'll see a 12" MacBook Pro?

My iMac 24" has gotten very little use since I got my MacBook last year, and I'm considering going MacBook Pro + 23" ACD instead if there's a chance we're getting a 12" MacBook Pro. 15" and 17" is just too large for my use, since I carry it around a lot and use it during class. A 12" would be cheaper than the 15" too right?

If so, I might put my iMac 24" out on sale in April/May, and just put the money aside to buy the 12" Pro when it comes out, then I could use the money from selling my MacBook when I get the Pro to buy a monitor. Of course I would have to add some myself too.

Does this sound like a good plan to anyone beside myself?

Are there any decent docks for the MacBook Pro series? Anything that Apple makes themselves?

I prey every night before I go to bed for a small computer from Apple with a MATTE SCREEN and it will probably not be cheaper then a 15 inch....

I wouldn't be surprised if we saw one with a flash drive instead of a traditional hard drive within the next year.

Don't have anything to back this up with but it would seem the technologies are there (or nearly there) to support one.

I also tend to think that, at this point, if it happens, it will be something substantially differentiated from other small notebooks on the market in some way or other... like using flash storage. And also tend to think that it won't be particularly cheap. Although you never know.

Slightly off topic sorry, but i am looking to purchase my fisrst Mac and debating between and iMac or a Macbook. I'm not a heavy graphics user, but wondered since you have clearly used both, how you rate each system and what you feel are the pros and cons of the Imac and Macbook.

Anyone elses comments on this are also very welcome.

I agree with you . Think iPhone Macro, not MBP mini. Though the patent applications with the optical drive in the bottom of the case show they're at least thinking about options....

MacBook Pro 15-inch plus Cinema Display is the perfect setup. I have a 12-inch PowerBook and the 15-inch MBP and honestly I can't work on the 12-inch any more because the screen resolution just bugs me too much. I don't find the 15-inch too big to travel with at all. I think you'd be quite happy with this setup.

Haha, I'm right with you there.
I gave the 12" PB to the wife, and I had to use it on Saturday (don't have office for the MBP yet), drove me stinkin crazy.

There is a market for this but whether Apple respond to the demand is another thing.. If they do do it it won't be cheap (ultraportables cost more in the pc world too...) which will differentiate it from the top end macbooks.

I don't think it would cannibalize the Macbook at all because the two markets are very different. It could include videocard, FW, faster processor, metallic casing (the "pro" look) plus boast the 12" size rather than 13" (which some people may still find too large) and other features I don't really know because I'm not in the market for this theoretical machine. It would likely be priced around the 15" (or more, since small form factor is a premium) and would therefore NOT cannibalize the Macbook. This would not just be a Macbook with a videocard. It would be the small Pro Mac Notebook that professionals on-the-go have been waiting for.

Two different markets.

I have the 12" PB & really want a 12" mbp, this is the only way i would ever upgrade.Why would I want to lug around something larger, no way. When I'm at home I just hook my PB to an external monitor.

I see where you are coming from in cannabilzing sales. But lets look at the iBook G4 and the PowerBook G4 12 inchers. I don't think there was a big problem with the sales of those laptops. The iBook had a slower processor, graphics not as good, didn't have backlit keyboard and all that stuff so there was a difference between those 2.

I think a ultra-thin 12/13 inch MacBook Pro would finally be the perfect replacement for the 12 inch PowerBook.

I want to buy a 12/13 inch MBP and i am most likely going to wait and to see if Apple releases a 12/13 inch MBP before i seriously consider getting a 12 inch Powerbook.
I am in the UK but do have friends in the US. There is no way that i would pay what Apple is asking for a Powerbook in there refurb US store right now. The £ is very strong against the $ but even still $1,119 is to high if you ask me. That is why they are probably still in the refurb store after a week because nobody wants to buy at that price.

If they do not bring one out i will look around for a decent Powerbook as a second computer that was still under Applecare. I have used a smaller factor computer before and i really liked using it.

I would miss out some things i would have liked in a computer such as Photobooth, Bootcamp and the other extras that come with an Intel based Mac if i was to buy a Powerbook.

I tried to check out using my friends address who lives in MA and the price of a refurb Powerbook came to $1,311 inclu sales tax so the price is even higher than i thought.
