Way more likely than it is with Apple. If Apple have any issues whatsoever it’s plastered everywhere and they’re pressured to fix it. People live for anti-Apple news. People have a deep loathing for Apple, more than any other tech company.

Lenovo release a thermal monstrosity and it’ll slide off the radar. Same with any other brand. For instance, we had a few Razer blade laptops in the office. Worst cooling I’ve ever seen. Inherently faulty. Immediately hitting boiling temperature when under stress. But people look at the price point, the hardware specs, and say it’s the better laptop regardless of the fact it runs slower because of the heavy throttling.

My experience with Lenovo laptops of any price point is that they’re junk, ThinkPad line included (utterly ruined IBM’s well-earned reputation). They look cheap, feel cheap, and are pretty much EOL within months because they’ll just throw models at the wall and see what sells.

Any idea?
Realistically it'll have similar limitations as other powerful-but-thin computers: It'll not be able to max out the CPU and the GPU simultaneously, but it will be a very impressive computer for its size and time.

Lenovo, in my experience, don't mind generating a lot of noise, so it may well be able to run slightly cooler or faster than a corresponding Apple laptop, but I guess we'll have to look at benchmarks to see if my guess holds any water.

I guess you are right unless they came up with some kind of special cooling system.

No likely given the cost of engineering such a solution

In that case, the only advantage of going for the Thinkpad line is the keyboard which is very important to me. Can't stand the sound and feel of the butterfly keyboard.

If there's a component that you hate on a laptop, then yeah, it makes no sense to buy that laptop ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The P1 just seems too light for it's components. Unless Lenovo has some voodoo magic going on hardware wise to cool everything I just don't see how it won't overheat/throttle. Wait for some reviews before you purchase it.

Depending on what you're doing, I would go with Thinkpad X1C (or wait for the rumored X1 Extreme with GTX 1050ti) or if you really need power, get the Thinkpad P52 with the Quadro P3200 (great for 3D/GFX/Editing and equivalent to the GTX 1060 for gaming).

The X1 Extreme seems to be the most suitable for me if it is lighter than the P1 (below 1.7kg) and no thermal issue. Can't stand fan noise after hearing jet engine sound from my MBP 2010.

Problems are: 1) I have been carrying that 3kg MBP 2010 17" + other stuffs in the summer (4 hours public transportation between home and work). Now I have some issue with my arm. I guess the weight damaged some nerves on the shoulder. So better to get a new laptop ASAP. 2) It is rumored to be released the first week of September but nobody really knows. 3) Nobody knows its actual weight and possible thermal issue at of now.
