Recently I had been just only updating the macOS Monterey related updates from the Another Update is Available option.

But I noticed the that the macOS Ventura update is pending to be downloaded/installed which I am not going to do right now.

My question is, how long will Apple have the option for users to SKIP the Ventura update?
Is there a specific time period where users can skip the installation of the Ventura update?

I'd say that Monterey will be supported and updated until beyond the version of macOS that comes out after Ventura.

Whether or not particular third-party applications will be supported is up to those developers.

You can stay with Monterey if you wish.

That's what I'm doing with my MacBook Pro 14". No plans to upgrade further (for now)...

No one HAS to upgrade macOS versions at all. See many end of the line (can't upgrade Macs) still running even ancient macOS versions. I have one in active use (for 2 apps with no way forward for either) running Snow Leopard.

However, Apple will pressure the upgrades by other means. Besides the notification tag which can be dealt with, Apple apps will tend to update that then require macOS to update. Beware the Apple iWorks apps in particular. Other app updates will require macOS updates, so you won't be able to install them until you update macOS. Wait long enough and you can find yourself with a pretty good number of app updates you can't use because you haven't upgraded the OS.

So while one could stick with any macOS version in place now, the rest of the walled garden will start leaving you behind and you can easily find yourself feeling like you HAVE to upgrade to be able use various apps.

Suggestion: when you feel you must but still wish you didn't, create a partition or install Ventura on a separate drive. Boot into Ventura when you must and switch back to whatever you use now if you prefer it. This is the "have your cake and eat it too" option.

Shoot, I haven't even upgraded to Monterey yet ;)

As others have stated, they don't force updates on you. I had a boss once who did freelance video editing on the side, and he was still on Tiger when we were all on Snow Leopard at work because his version of editing software wouldn't run on anything beyond that for some reason (I forget what).

Don't forget that Apple has recently said that only the most current OS's are fully patched against all vulnerabilities.

Well Monterey is the end of the road for my iMac 2015 5k until I upgrade. Still runs great. I don't see much in Ventura that is a must have anyway.
