State of Denial
So far I've used my iBook for about a day without running the Finder... and surprisingly, it's not that bad. I find everything I need to do with the Finder can be done with the Terminal with almost as much ease, and with at least as much efficiency (and dang is the locate command much faster than the Finder's cmnd-f Find). Really, as long as you have the Terminal in the dock you can do pretty much anything without the Finder, as long as you know some rudimentary commands and vi. Quite interesting, really...

so how long can/could you go without the Finder, if at all?

I don't think I could do without the Finder. I know so little UNIX that the Terminal would be useless under lengthy time periods without a simple GUI.

Unless I turn my computer into a jukebox with iTunes...now we're talkin'. :D
