Hi,

I was just wondering how long the photo curation will take. I installed iOS 13 yesterday and left the phone plugged in during the night and plenty of time today but the curation is still not finished. The loading bar seems to be stuck at around 90%. I have roughly 2,000 photos and 500 videos.

So I was just wondering if it's normal that it takes so long or if there is an issue.

Best wishes
Chris

Mine also finished in the meantime luckily. Took 2 nights + also some time during the days.

I installed iOS 13 in the evening on the 19th and I woke up to a message that the curation had finished in the morning on the 21st.

My library consists of 4100 photos and 425 videos

iPhone X

Mine is completely stuck at 90% for more than three weeks. I installed the GM release the day it was released, and since then, the process is stuck at 80-90%. I let the phone connected to the power for the process to complete with no progression. The faces recognition process ended up more than a week ago, but the curation process is stuck :(.

I installed OS X Catalina beta to check if my Mac was able to complete the curation process but the result is the same. After analyzing all faces, the curation process is stuck at 90% and the photoanalysisid process is not taking CPU resources any longer.

I opened a feedback case, but I think is worthless, I don't think they are going to read it or solve it. But I tried anyway...

Is this about scanning for the people album? 26,180 scanned since 9/20/19 and 3,070 remaining. Seems like a pretty long time to scan considering I leave my phone plugged in and on WiFi every night.

Not the scanning for people. R are referencing the photos curation process as seen here in the bottom of the screen. It only shows itself in the days, months, years tabs.

After two and half weeks my curating process is at approximately 50%. I've got a little over twenty thousand pictures in my library.
What's this 'curation' anyway?

When the curation process is over for you, a message stating that the curation process has finished appear or there is no more information about curation? I've checked with some friends and one of them has a message that says "Curation finished" while the other has no message at all...

It will

It will say that citation is done or if you miss the message it will just say “Upto date”

Yeah! Now that’a my case, only an “up to date” message under the “Days” tab. However, I think that message refers to the process of uploading pictures to iCloud.

In the “months” o or “years” tabs there is no message at all. That’s why I asked about case :)

It would be nice if we could limit the curation to photos that have EXIF data associated with them. This would allow it to automatically exclude non-photo images saved to the library, such as screenshots, art saved from sites like DeviantArt, and so on.

Intelligent curation puts the focus on your best shots.
Using on‑device machine learning, the Photos tab hides similar photos and reduces clutter by removing screenshots and receipts, so you can easily enjoy your best shots. Photos also uses intelligence to find and focus on only the best part of your photo for better previews.

Now that my curation is complete it just says "Up To Date" The iCloud uploading progress will show on the all photos tab.

Curation is a constant process fyi. I saw it a few times during my vacation. It only happens when you set your filter to one of the curation ones (year, month, day). If you keep it on all photos it wont start to curate it seems (I had it on all photos for a long time, switched to days and had the curation message which then, a few hours later, vanished and presented a „nicer“ selection of the last few days).

Did you guys have to lock the phone with the photos app open to the progress bar to get it to finish?

I had the photos app open and then locked the phone but I’m not sure if it makes a difference.
Ok. Cool. I’ll give it a try before bed again.
I did a hard reset while plugged in and had the photos app opened up to the progress bar some today and I kept checking my cpu usage in and an app and it was hovering between 50-90% for a long time so I knew it was doing something but the progress bar still hasn’t budged. Also a few new categories showed up under the search like, food, snow and birds, which wasn’t there before so I suspect it was going something! It must just be a looooooong looooong process for some reason!!

I should add I had it locked at that screen and kept coming back ever 10-15 minutes to feel that the phone was warm when checking the cpu usage. But after a couple of hours it stopped and is ice cold and the cpu usage was back to idle when I checked it. I wish there was a way to just force it to do its thing so I could get it over with! Just feels buggy yet!

I solved my problem!!! So I use a smart battery case on my 7. I thought well here is something I haven’t tried yet. So I took off the case before bed and plugged my phone in and.... the curation finished overnight!!!

So there must be a bug with the smart battery case and ios13 photo curation. At least in my case.

I wish I would’ve tried that a long time ago!! Man this was driving me nuts! Now I have no problems with iOS 13.:)
