Hello folks,

I regularly leave audio files playing on my iMac for about 5 hours non stop with the volume set to medium or just below, never on full. I was just wondering how long would the internal speakers last if they're used like that everyday? Do you think I need to get external speakers? I wouldn't be getting them for the sound, I'm ok with the iMac's internals, if I did it would be so that I don't burn the internals out, if that is at all possible?

Thanks.

They should last the life span of the computer if not longer. I can't recall having a speaker go on any computer or electric device.

Cool, that does it then, didn't real feel like buying a set of speakers anyway, just thought that it would be easier to replace externals if they did ever mess up, but cool if there's no need for them.

Thank you.

I hear you, I'm ok with the internals although I'm not totally averse to buying a good set of speakers in the future. What would you recommend?

depends on your budget.

any 3" stereo speaker next to your imac will dramatically improve it.
i'd recommend no smaller than 5".

I have a mid-2007 iMac that I still use for much more than five hours daily. That includes the speakers about 80% of the time. They still work and sound great today.

Other components will begin to fail before speakers go bad.

That being said, I use 4.1 quadraphonic speakers with just the 3.5 aux connected to the iMac, and it somehow sounds incredible...

The front speakers are raised to my face leve. And subwoofer is under my bed

I've got a couple 15-year-old iMac G3s on which the internal speakers and sound quality has degraded, but I don't think you'll have to worry about this happening within a reasonable time span on a new iMac.

Wilson Alexandria XLF. (There are speakers for every taste and budget--and sometimes, it's best to go with a pair of hi fi speakers and an amplifier.)

You are all lucky, the speakers on my 2008 iMac died years ago. They still 'work' but the sound is very distorted and I had to switch to external speakers.
