I wiped some of it off, but some of it might have gotten in, and I flipped the MBP upside the down just in case. Would waiting 1 day be ok?

Waiting will never hurt in dealing with accidents involving liquids and electronics. Further, if you happen to have some plastic bins and moisture absorbing packets (you know, the square things that say "Do Not Eat" that are often found with new clothes and in packaged foods) around, you can put the MBP and some packets into a bin overnight–or longer, if you have time.

You can never wait too long. You only have one shot at this. If you turn it on too soon. Just to see if it works. It could be goodbye Macbook. As the damage from a short circuit will happen faster than you can react to.

Take off the back. Open the lid partially. So, the laptop is sitting in an upside down V. Put a fan on it and wait a week. Probably overkill. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you unplugged the battery.

Also, what liquid was this? Anything other than water or pure alcohol. You're going to want disassemble. Then give it a thorough cleaning. My preference is to flush with 92% alcohol. Obviously all power sources must be disconnected.

It's not that water causes damage. It's the short circuit which causes the damage. In fact when I clean an old scuzzy circuit board. I douse it with alcohol. Scrub it gently with a toothbrush. Rinse with a garden hose. Then douse with alcohol to speed up drying. Leaving it in front of a fan for several days. Typically, I also blow liquid out from under various chips with my reflow station at a low temp.

I spilt coffee on my M1 MacBook Air last week and tried turning on a day later. and nothing. Took it to Apple and they said liquid had got in via the audio port and corroded the logic board and the screen had liquid damage too. Cost me £429 to repair but they said the worst case scenario would have cost £779. If its water you may be luckier.
