How long do you plan on using your c2d Mbp?

hi, i was just wondering how long c2d mbp owners are planning on using their c2d mbps. Do you think it will last through 5 years of college? I will be using it for probably 5 years to use for a master's degree in computer science. Will it most likely handle future mac operating systems as fast as it does with tiger?(not just talking about leopard)

I got 3 years of use out of my 12" PB, so I figure the same for my 15" C2D MBP.

i would say def, aslong as you have a good sleeve and bag and take care of it, i see so many fully loaded out powerbooks being tossed around these days just because they arnt top of the line. if you take care of it it will last.

Personally, I'll upgrade again next year when they have something that can take more than 3GB of RAM.

But other than that, if you don't need more than 3GB of RAM I would think this will be a great machine to use for at least 2-3 years. 4-5 may be pushing it depending on what new features are in OS X whatever-cat-they-are-up-to-in-2009, and how much processor/RAM that version will really need.

I only have a CD MBP, it now has 2Gb RAM and i plan on flogging it for as long as possible. I think after about 5 years it will be just packing in so then ill get a new one. But not until its failing and on its last legs. I want my money's worth!!

1-1.5 yrs before I sell it and get something newer. I do this with all my laptops.

My 667mhz powerbook for almost 5 years.

I got my Powerbook almost 5 years ago. And just lately I am noticing it is getting slow and newer software doesn't run as well as it use to mostly due to the old video card. That is why I got myself a New C2D MBP. That should last me the same amount of time if not more. Then my old system. I too am planning to use it for Masters work MBA (Lot of presentations and graphic stuff), it should last me the entire time and then some. My Powerbook lasted many years at work as a Computer Consultant and I have written many programs in in for Unix and Windows applications (using virtual PC), and it has never failed me. Normally if you get yourself the Top computer you usually get 2 Years with it being considered a Power System, 2 Years of a Normal System, and after that it starts showing its age. So you get 4 Years of being able to run the latest and greatest stuff. Then after that you usually need to get more careful.

this is why i plan on getting it with 3gb of ram, so it will last me a little bit longer when more and more programs start using larger amounts of memory. I might be considering the option of selling it next year and buying a new one, probably when a penryn macbook pro is released.

I have an Intel Celeron 667Mhz Pee Cee going on 7 years and counting now. I'm sure the MBP will last a while.

it comes down to a number of things.

how much $ you are willing to loose on the sale of the machine

how long you are able to cope with slowing performance as new applications and OS's require new generation hardware.. etc

I have a CD MBP, I'll put about 3 years on it's life

However, I've been through 3 Macbook Pros and 2 Macbooks... I have a habbit of selling and upgrading

However, a nice new Macbook Pro should last the average person at least 4~5 years.

Here are my specs:

2.33Ghz C2D - 2GB RAM - 256MB Graphix - 105GB left on my drive

I'm counting on that lasting me all through college, maybe more. And I'm going to be doing some video editing. Before I got this hot ticket, I was on a 1.25Ghz PB w/ 2GB RAM and it was running just fine doing everyday stuff like web browsing, iTunes, Word, etc.

So short answer: Yes

Well, I will use it at least 4 years, because I need it mainly for business reviews and presentations (you will love to see some bigshots faces, directors, CEO's and the like) that, i can say, with keynotes and some design ability really impress!

Besides, the Apple remote complete the effect, with, OF COURSE, the sweet chime of my MBP starting and working less than a minute from ON.
Sometimes, I got nice talks with some managers Apple fan's about my former PB G3, so you would bet that now I can even that some open mouse with it!

Due to my limited needs, to what now I can add easy film editing for personal and marketing uses, I am quite happy... hope to increase my 20 years old mac user experience

I'm getting it on 3 years credit but will be paying it off in 2, and i'm purchasing it for University use

I'm starting 4 years of uni next year, and am hoping that it will last all of that, as i am not sure when my financial situation will be as stable as it is now!

I'll probably just upgrade it, like for example, i'm getting it with 2gb ram now, but if it starts getting sluggish then I will upgrade it to 3gb.
