I registered Applecare for my Macbook today. It still says on the Apple site that I'm covered by the limited warranty which will expire September 7, 2007. How long does it take for Apple's records to update themselves? It would be bad if my money was wasted.

dude, for real...if you just registered it today.....give it a few days.

I'm sure that it will be updated before Sept. 7... if it isn't, you have a receipt saying that you bought AppleCare before your warranty expired, so that would cover you.

It's the registration that counts, not the receipt. If you fail to register your applecare before the 366th day, it doesn't matter when you bought it, it can't be applied to that serial number of machine.

Why?

Because Applecare can be applied to any machine of that type... so imaging a company with 10 Powerbook G4's. The clever IT person buys one Applecare extended warranty, and holds it on the shelf without registering it to a serial number, and waits for a machine to break down. Then after 2 years, one breaks down and he sez "Here's my receipt, I bought Applecare 2 years ago but never registered it - now fix my out of warranty machine please". If Apple accepted that, then they would have taken the risk on all 10 of the machines, for the revenue of only one. Insurance is based on the premise that some machines will buy it and never need to claim on it, and those people subsidize the repairs on the ones that need it.

My AppleCare shows as being registered, but I still get emails from Apple telling me my 90 day or whatever warranty is almost up.

Even if you have Apple Care if you need something fixed or replaced or serviced it'll be under the 90 day warranty, and then once that is over it'll go to your Apple Care. I wouldn't be surprised if it said that right up to Sept. 7. But even if it isn't recognizing it, as long as you have proof you bought it when you did you're fine.

Just be patient dude, you're all good. It's just your 90 days of phone support is about to be up and then you still got another 9 months of normal warranty but you should be fine since you already registered your applecare. You'll get a letter in the mail shortly about it also.
