How long does it take to hard reset your 3GS?

My iPhone consistantly takes 3.5-5 minutes to hard reset. Whenever I would reset my first gen. iPhone I don't remember it taking more than a minute or so, and the 3GS's processor is faster so I would assume it should take a shorter time.

So if you could help me out by timing how long it takes your 3GS to hard reset (hold down lock button until you get to power off screen, then hold down both the lock button and the home button for about 10 seconds until the apple logo shows up) that would be great. In addition to the time could you also provide the memory capacity of your phone and how much of it you have filled.

I'm concerned that my processor isn't as fast as it should be? Is there anything else that could cause the reset time to be so slow?

First gen iPhone running iPhone OS 3.1.3?

just to give you a reference, it just took 2 mins and 5 seconds on my iphone 3G running 3.1.3.

So anything longer than that and there is some sort of issue. I seem to remember when the 3gs was released that the startup time was somewhere around 1/2 to 1/3 of what the 3g is. So you should be under a minute.

Also it's a 16 GB iPhone with maybe around 12GB or 13GB filled

I think it depends on how "full" it is...

Me and my GF both have a 3GS, hers has about 9GB used on it, I'm almost using the complete 32GB.

Doing a hard boot, heres is up and running in about a minute, mine takes 3 to 4 minutes.

While running, I notice no ill effects, so I'm not worried about it. I haven't tried them empty, so I don't know for sure.

This is true but sometimes you have to as it freezes. Apple told me that rebooting is ok, resetting is not as it can corrupt data. Go figure as that's the only way to recover from some issues.

Because it frees up RAM? And because some apps won't work properly after you install them until you reboot?...

Yes it's a phone but it's still an OS and just as much a computer as your laptop, even though it handles much simpler functions.

I only do it very rarely and usually just when my iphone messes up or freezes.

That's never been a claimed selling point of any smartphone.

Even so, of all the smartphones I've ever owned, the iPhone has always had the longest uptimes. Going on 20 days now. A far cry from the days of the Treo, when they would reboot themselves once or a twice a day.

It takes longer to reboot from a hard reset.. Theirs nothing wrong with your iPhone. Turn your phone off by sliding the power button and then turn it on. It will boot in about 30 secs..

I noticed this a couple of months ago.. The phone didn't start taking longer to reboot until 3.1 was released.. So theirs more of sumthing wrong with 3.1.x that causes is this. But theirs nothing wrong.. Nothing to worry about
