I have a Droid Razr M and thinking about getting the Iphone 6. I just have one question that will determine if I will get it or not and I need the community of MacRumors to help me out.:)

The Droid Razr M has been very reliable to me in the sense of the three core things I look for in a phone: To make calls, send and receive texts messages fast, and notify me of emails instantly when I get them.

I tested this out on my Droid Razr M by sending an email that contained few sentences and an attachment of a Word document that were of two pages to my gmail account. My phone made a sound within a second and half. FAST!

I use only gmail on my current phone, but I will change to hotmail as my primary email and will use it if i get the Iphone 6.

So my question is, "How long will the Iphone 6 take to notify me when I receive an email in my hotmail account?"

The reason why I ask is because my sister and relatives tell that their 5s will sometimes notify them and most of the time will not. And those sometimes, as I tested with their phones, will get the email within 3 to 20 minutes of sending!!! WHY SO SLOW!

If the Iphone 6 is as fast at receiving an email like my current 3 year old phone I will definitely get it. So community of MacRumors, could you help me out?

Gmail stopped its push service so you are left with fetch. I had my gmail set up as fetch and it was anywhere from instant to a few minutes tops. I eventually gave up on gmail and got iCloud, which is push with instant notification. I love iCloud's push and actually totally switched over to their service exclusively. I started by just forwarding all my gmail emails to it, bang.....instant push. But in the end I started to hate gmails web interface so just got rid of it as a whole. May I suggest you give iCloud a shot and just forward your gmail through it if the gmail fetch isn't fast enough.

Either one of the gmail apps with notify you instantly when you get an email. How fast is it... I've just sent a test message from my @mac address to my gmail address. Just text it's less than a second with a picture (full size) it took 2 seconds.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I realized that when I tested all my relative's Iphones with a gmail, their phones would not respond with an email sent from a hotmail or yahoo account. The only way for the phone to check new mail with gmail was to tap on the mail app and recycle it. That was extremely disappointing for me.

However, when I tested all their Iphones with hotmail, or rather outlook, it notified me within a couple of seconds! :)

I'M GETTING AN IPHONE 6!!!:) Sorry android, my decision has been made. I just need a little change in scenery for a bit for the next year or two. Maybe I'll come back...;)

Hotmail is Outlook.com and will push to an iPhone immediately.

You know what? I did not test any iphone with hotmail...just gmail... I'll be right back:p
