How long do you think it will take third parties like OWC to start selling RAM for new iMacs. I just called OWC and the person I talked to could not say.

The 27-in iMacs uses 2400MHz DDR4 SODIMMs, according to Apple's website, so I guess you can buy it in Amazon?
Is it possible to keep the 8GB I'm ordering and add a further 32GB (2x16)?

Yes you could do that. There's 4 ram slots, with the 8gb taking up 2 and the other 2 being empty.
There's no real reason to replace the stock ram unless you just want to throw in more than 2x4 in those slots. There's always super anal people who swear by it, but you'll find very few people who have had issues directly linked to miss matched ram.

Do RAMS still need to be symmetrical these days (each slot having equal GBs of RAMs)? I was once told there's a performance penalty with mismatched RAMs, but that was years ago.
