Even on a CRT you would have to run a still image for months before getting image retention...and even then its unlikely. What killed it was sitting at the DOS prompt for years on end...not 2 days.

If I do it the other way (iMac in Target Mode) the iMac goes to sleep!

I was trying to copy my home directory from the iMac to my G5 by putting the iMac G4 into firewire target mode.

Everything worked perfectly for the first few minutes copying the files, then the iMac just turned off. I've tried putting everything setting on the iMac to Never Sleep, but that doesn't appear to make a difference. So I eventually put the G5 in target mode and copied from the iMac. That worked.

Some post somewhere told me to delete some file in /var/db but that seemed unlikely to work and I didn't want to loose my system configuration in the process. I assume that this is a OpenFirmware setting somewhere...

Anyone have this type of problem? I've seen it happen with my iBook but plugging it into the AC resolved that. My iMac is already as plugged in as it gets...
