How long should a first Time Machine Backup take?

Hi guys,

I've run into some problems after bootcamp failed to remove the Windows partition fully and now I am stuck with my low disk space for Mac OSX (I need approx 5GB to download OSX Mavericks , that's how low I am on disk space ).

Anyways, I need to backup my files before I can repair the disk. I started a Time Machine backup for the first time and the estimated time to back up a 365GB partition is 12 hours! Is this normal or well above average?

I'm backing up a 15" i7 MBP using USB 2.0 with a 3.0 cable.

Normal. To back up my 600-700GB originally took me almost 27 hours the first time, but I had a wifi backup. You should always keep up with your backups so that things like this don't happen when awesome new software is released

Never understood why time machine backup takes so long compared to a simple copy-paste. 360 Gb first backup would take about 8-10 hours for time machine but would take max 10 minutes to copy normally. Is it the indexing that makes it so long or what?
