I have a 2009 vintage iMac. I downloaded Mountail Lion this morning. A few minutes after it fininished downloading it said it need to restart. It has been stuck on the light gray screen with the little circular spinning icon fo about an hour. Will this clear up on its own or do I need to intervene?

From the moment i hit download till the second i booted into Mountain Lion, it was about 45 minutes 0_o

I have a pretty decent internet connection and downloading the 4.3gb file took about 20- 25 minutes. I did a quick time machine backup before i did anything with the installer and before long, i booted into mountain lion. It was fairly quick to write on my MBA. Because there is probably an HDD in your iMac, it will definitely be a longer process
