How long until 128 GB SSD in Air?

Yes, yes... I know there are a few posts similar to this, and I know that one manufacturer already made a 128 GB laptop SSD (though we don't know the dimensions/thickness). The fact of the matter is that the only thing holding me back from an Air at the moment is the 64 GB limit. While Penryn and other things may offer significant improvements... I don't really need them. I'm just hoping for a refresh similar to that the iPhone and touch just received. Apple has been kind of weird as of late with random price drops and capacity increases. How long do you think I'll be waiting? I think I can make it until the summer, but the thought of longer is not going to happen.

Any thoughts or news?

How about a 64 gig SSD iPod touch? Now I would shell out money for that.

I think it will be the fall. I suspect the price will be still be high, but not so crazy.

I got the 64gb SSD for speed reasons. (Shows what I know.)

I don't regret the purchase, but I really would like to get this to 128gig. That's a reasonable minimum nowadays.

Yeah, what's with SSD technology? HDD, RAM, CPUs, etc... all have quick advancements accompanied by falling prices. Seems that SDD technology stays pricey despite advancements. Maybe it's just too early for that.

Anyway, my guess is Fall as well, right after the back to school student buy a mac + iPod deal. Say... October-ish.

MWSF 2008 in June (I think). At that time Apple will have to upgrade the MBA as Intel will discontinue the current processors and Apple will have to switch to the small form factor Penryn chips. We could also hope for a larger hard disk option at that time.

I'm actually with the OP - I'm good with everything that the macbook air has to offer but would like larger storage. I would imagine there are many people in a similar situation.

Agree completely - I'm struggling to get everything I 'need' onto the machine and still leave some space free for normal use. At the moment I've had to sacrifice carrying my music library with me (approx 35gb). I suppose I could put this on a small external drive but I'm not sure how well iTunes will cope with a 'removable' library.

I don't think that we'll see a rev that involves any substantive redesign until next year.

As for processor and SSD/HDD upgrades, Apple can introduce them at almost any time as "bumps" to the current versions without having to wait for a special event like WWDC. The problem is that we don't know about any faster processors or larger drives on the immediate horizon that are small and/or cheap enough for the MBA. But we certainly could see something around June.

A 96 GB SSD is conceivable, but very unlikely in the configuration you're suggesting. More likely it will be a single drive. Currently on the market are 64 GB and 48 GB drive and the technology tends to double itself, hence the expectation for a consumer 128 GB or 96 GB drive.

I think we are differing our definition of "new rev".

Look at the macbook and macbook pro. Both have had many revisions, yet they haven't changed their external design much if anything. The most recent Penryn MBP is leaps and bounds superior to the original Core Duo MBP, yet it looks nearly identical and wouldn't be a "new rev" by what you're saying. If the Macbook Air gets a new processor and SSD/HDD upgrade, I would consider that to be a new rev, and I think it would get a new model number as well. Those would be significant updates. As for an entire case redesign, I agree that won't happen for at least a year, but there will likely be multiple revs before we see a case redesign.

I've done this with no problem on a desktop external EZ Quest Firewire drive. Then again, I usually start up on the system I've installed on that 160 GB drive. So not sure how a USB, unpowered potable drive would work for iTunes
