I have one, and like the size and performance. I know they are still being sold "new" (though perhaps not manufacturing them for our market anymore; I have bought them recently through Walmart online and most recently Apple clearance).

Since they are still being activated in 2019 as new devices, any guesses on how many years it might be supported through software upgrades and hardware parts?

I have one too, just bought it a month ago because there was one for sale at a good price even though I have a 6s+. At first the screen seemed too small but after getting used to the smaller screen after a few days I don't miss the plus size at all.
No idea how many more versions the SE will be, hoping to at least 14. The only thing I'm concerned about is it supporting my iWatch 4. Guess it will stop as the iOS updates stop.

Most past iPhone models gets supported 4 to almost 5 years. The longest supported one so far is the 5S running longer than 5 years so far.

iOS 13 is rumored to drop support for the iPhone 5S to iPhone 6S, including the iPhone SE because of the backlash that Apple got from the Batterygate.

6S & SE will get iOS 13 otherwise they have to drop support for the 2017 iPad aswell which is only 2 years old.

It be the 1GB devices that won't probably get iOS 13.

I think there will be one more new version and that’s it.

iPhone SE has 2015 internals. Does anyone even remember what life in 2015 looked like?

They only discontinued it in September, and they're still selling it new on clearance. Making a phone obsolete at 6 months, before the warranty is even up, is outrageous.

If they do it I'll still stay with it on iOS 12 until it becomes unusable, then switch to an Android. Not having a headphone jack is a dealbreaker, it's the reason I first started using smartphones. The only acceptable alternative is if they go to USB-C and have it output analog audio as well as digital.

An iPhone S model is supported for 2 more years than its non-s predecessor. The iPhone 6 was supported until iOS 12, so the 6s will probably get till ios 14. And since the SE is basically a tiny 6s, I expect it to get until ios 14 as well.

Listen up, iPhone SE and 6s got ios 13. They're more than capable of running it, and they are probably gonna get 14 as well. Not everyone has a bad battery.

This Wikipedia article lists the length of time each model was supported in months - ignoring the iPhones still supported and the first two models which had a shorter lifespan, the average comes out to be about 5-6 years of support. The iPhone SE on it's 4th year, so I'm assuming that it'll get at least 1 more year of support.

The“s” models were heralded as “it’s a minor update” up to, and including, the 6s. I think it was mostly non-s users justifying their existing hardware. Anyone could foresee that the performance improvement should receive more years of support.

I sure hope we'll get iOS 14..

But - I will say - If not, I'll be staying on iOS 13

The only wild card is if there really is a new flagship that's slightly smaller than the iPhone 8/SE2 size devices.

Even so, I'd probably only jump on one of those preowned or refurbished, since I'm sure they will be pricey.

You’re looking at Approximately two years of iOS support remaining. Personally, if you break down what you paid for those phones being used on a daily basis, they should pay for itself in terms of longevity/iOS support.
